In Toscane kent men de grote wijnen vooral uit Montalcino, de Chianti-clasico gemeentes en uit Bolgheri. Uit de laatste komen de bekende "Super-Tuscan" wijnen, Toscaanse krachtpastsers die, tegen de regels van de DOC, bestaan uit niet inheemse druivenrassen. Vaak een blend van Sangiovese met Franse varieteiten als Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah en Merlot. Tenuta di Valgiano bevind zich in het pittoreske Lucca (DOC Colline Lucchesi) , wat qua naam minder bekend is dan Bolgheri maar in kwaliteit er zeker niet voor onder doet!
