Les poèmes de L'Abrupt forment une seule œuvre en deux volets. Pour composer les volumes, j'ai respecté de façon générale la date d'écriture des poèmes: chaque texte étant placé dans le premier ou le second volet en accord avec l'axe, le pôle de convergence que j'ai entrevus pour chacun des livres. André Gide écrivait que «l'audace la plus belle est celle de la fin de la vie [...] artistes dont l'œuvre s'achève en falaise et qui présentent au futur la plus abrupte face» de leur quête.
