According to the U.S. Mint, to create the coin’s sharp relief and a mirror-like background, the “proof” minting process requires manually feeding burnished coin blanks into presses where each coin is struck multiple times to create the softly frosted and highly detailed images. This coin set originally belonged to a coin collector who stored it in our safe for years. Eventually we acquired his collection in the condition he left it and other than sealing it in plastic it is sold as he left it - The plastic containers have never been opened.
