The six symphonies Op.2 were issued by the Parisian publisher La Chevardière in 1760. They were evidently popular and still considered current enough for Breitkopf to advertise copies for sale in his 1775 thematic catalogue. The title page of La Chevardière's edition reads:'SIX / SIMPHONIES / A QUATRE PARTIES / Et Cors de Chasses / ad Libitum / Ddie / A MONSIEUR RA / PAR FRANCESCO BEK / Dissipolo D'Stamitz... OPERA II...' As in the earlier Op.1 'overtures' Beck includes one minor-key work in the set also in G minor but adds a pair of horns in two symphonies (Op.2 No.1 and Op.2 No.5) to great effect. The string writing is again thrilling in the best Mannheim tradition but, as in the symphonies of Richter, there is a harmonic breadth and contrapuntal ingenuity which is absent from the works of many of his contemporaries. The stylistic unity of Beck's published symphonies seems to have encouraged the practice of interchanging movements. A copy of Op.2 No.1 (Callen 7), preserved in the University Library in Basel (ex Sarasin collection), includes a spurious timpani part and replaces the first and second movements of the work with those from Op.4 No.4 (Callen 22). In the same collection there is a mix-and-match pastiche of Op.2 No.2: the first and second movements are replaced by those of the G minor Overture Op.1 No.1 (Callen 1). The practice continued in our own century; Robert Sondheimer's edition of Op.2 No.5 (Berlin, 1927) substituted the first and third movements from Op.3 No.4 (Callen 16) and added a Minuet (from Callen 28).

This edition is based on a copy of La Chevardière's print now preserved in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. The only major departure from the text is the omission of the basso continuo figuring on the grounds that it is more likely to be the work a publisher's assistant than the composer and is rendered largely superfluous by the publication of the work in full score. In the absence of both the autograph score and an authentic set of parts, the edition presents as faithfully as possible the intentions of the composer as transmitted in La Chevardière's print. The style and notation of articulation and dynamic markings have been standardised throughout, and, where missing, markings have been reconstructed from parallel passages. These are indicated by the use of dotted slurs or brackets where appropriate. Like most eighteenth-century sources, La Chevardière's print is inconsistent at times in its notation of appoggiature; these too have been standardised to minimise confusion. Obvious wrong notes have been corrected without comment; editorial emendations with no authority from the source are placed within brackets. Allan Badley

Great value and easy to install!

I only needed 3 of the 4 shelves so I have one as a backup! Very easy to install as well. The shelves feel sturdy and I’ve never had any issues!

quality matches cost + instructions unnecessarily tedious
Color: Brown, Color: Brown
The material is real wood but don't assume that means quality - it's still very cheap feeling, and very lightweight. But once installed they are quite stable, and they look great from afar. I got a darker colored one and the stain does come off very easily. One of the shelves had a huge manufacturer sticker on it and it took off the stain when I removed it, and a bit of the stain also came off when I wiped the shelves down with a wet cloth. It'll be dry dusting from now on, I suppose. Also, they did not fit snugly into the corner - when one side is pushed flush to the wall, it forces the other side to pull away from the wall a little bit. It wasn't a drastic space, maybe like 1/8th of an inch, but it is still something to note. I am fine with the cheap quality as they are, after all, pretty cheap, so I'd say they are worth exactly as much as they cost. Personally I am happy with the purchase - just thought I'd warn. Secondly - if you want to follow the instructions exactly, you will need two people unless you have inhuman agility. But I also think the instructions were a bit asinine and tedious. They want you to line up the LOOSE shelf and brackets with a leveler to mark where the brackets go on the wall, then put in the wall screws, hang the brackets on them, balance the shelf on the brackets to mark on the SHELF where the brackets will be attached, take the brackets off the wall to screw them into the shelf, then put the combined shelf-bracket unit once again on the wall screws and finally screw those in tight. In hindsight, you can just mark where the brackets should go on the SHELF (not wall), screw the brackets into the shelves, THEN level the shelf on the wall and screw the whole unit into the wall together. We were really baffled why the instructions didn't have us do that instead of spending extra time (and frustration) trying to juggle all the loose pieces and tools. But I'm not engineer-minded, nor have I ever installed corner shelves before, so maybe there would be some kind of issue with doing it that way that I can't predict.

Good shelving decor
Color: Black
Easy to install and perfect for a corner display of Disney decor. They are lightweight, so we didn't put anything heavy on them, but the brackets seem sturdy enough that we could probably put something moderately weighty on them.

GREAT BUY
Color: Natural Wood
LOVE these shelves! Got them for each side of the bed to put books. Really elevates the room, and is cuter than just a simple straight book shelf.
