Five volumes in one (continuously paginated), 8vo. Original blue cloth, lettered in gilt, boards ruled in blind; pp. iv], 150, [6]; [161]-287, [1]; [289]-404, [2, blank], [10, four leaves of publisher's advertisements, final blank]; [417]-547, [2, 3, blank]; [8, preliminaries of part IV erroneously bound in again]; [553]-746, [1]; a little wear to extremities; the initial two leaves a little spotted; otherwise, apart from even toning to paper stock, a very good copy.
Very rare first Polish edition of what the publishers claimed to be the first complete history of Zionism in Polish up to the present day (1935). Tsineman (1893-1966) was born in Eastern Galicia to a Zionist father and follower of the Jewish Enlightenment. As a leading Zionist he spent the years 1927 to 1939 in Warsaw, publishing and writing in Yiddish, Hebrew and Polish. After Soviet deportation to Central Asia he established himself in Paris as writer in Yiddish, and added to this history of Zionism more volumes up to the establishment of Israel (in Yiddish, 1947-1949).
WorldCat locates copies at Columbia University (described as four volumes in one); and in the National Library of Israel (five volumes, as here); not in LibraryHub.
