The Performance High Cut Boot is Zhik's racing-focused option for sailors who need their feet locked in position under load. The high-cut design holds the ankle joint stable during tacks and gybes, which is where a lower boot starts to let you down. It's built for ILCA racing and fast dinghy training, though it works just as well for anyone who hikes hard and wants ankle support that holds through a full race day.
The sole is a high-grip rubber compound developed for wet fibreglass and composite decks. The 2:1 ankle strap and side lacing system with under-strap hooks work together to keep the fit exact, and neither shifts under load. Drainage channels run through the sole to clear water fast, so the boot doesn't become dead weight mid-race. Reinforced panels at the toe and heel handle repeated deck contact without breaking down.
Zhik Performance High Cut Boot Construction
The high-cut profile keeps the ankle joint supported through the high-load moments in a race, particularly tacks, gybes and hiking. The wide 2:1 ankle strap locks the joint in position, and the side lacing system with under-strap hooks keeps the fit tight and precise without the laces working loose or catching on deck hardware.
Stitched reinforcement at the toe and heel protects the areas that take the most punishment from repeated deck contact. A high-walled rubber outsole and rubber-coated neoprene panels cover the high-contact zones without adding stiffness where you don't need it. The outsole uses cold-cemented construction, which addresses the delamination issues that affected earlier generations of Zhik dinghy boots.
The high-grip rubber compound sole gives reliable traction on wet deck surfaces. Integrated drainage channels clear water quickly so the boot stays light and responsive rather than heavy and sluggish as water comes aboard.

Zhik High Cut Sailing Boot FAQs
What is the main advantage of the high-cut design?
It keeps the ankle joint stable under load, which matters most during tacks, gybes and hard hiking. A lower boot gives you more freedom of movement but less support at the moments when your foot is taking the most strain. If ankle mobility is more important to you than support, the Zhik Performance Ankle Boot is the lower-cut alternative.
How does the lacing system work?
The side lacing system has under-strap hooks that keep the laces clear of snag points and hold the fit tight even when wet. It adjusts like a normal lace-up but stays put through a full race without needing to be retightened.
Are the high cut Zhik sailing boots suitable for hiking?
Yes they are, the high-walled outsole and reinforced panels handle the abrasion from hiking straps and deck edges, and the ankle strap gives you something solid to push against when you're out on the wire.
How do Zhik's high cut dinghy boots handle water?
Integrated drainage channels let water escape quickly through the sole. The boots won't keep your feet dry but they shed water fast enough to stay light through a race.
Is the Zhik sailing boot sole non-marking?
Yes, for standard fibreglass and composite deck surfaces. If your club or class has a specific non-marking requirement, it's worth checking the rules directly.
