1793: An illustrated (his-) story to the French Revolution - Leather BoundIt's the year 1792. For three years now the banner of revolution has been fluttering over France. Sure, the old structure has fallen but still the people clamor for change. There is a shortage of bread and on the borders the Austrians and Prussians are ready to invade. The press has become mighty popular, publicly denouncing traitors and calling the populace to arms. There are some that believe that the Revolution has gone far enough, but for others

It's the year 1792. There are some that believe that the Revolution has gone far enough, but for others it has yet to begin. As a radical, a moderate or conservative, you’re going to attempt to lead the revolution...or at least make sure you’re alive when it’s over. If you fail, Mme. guillotine awaits…and she is becoming thirsty!

Patriots & Traitors recreates the chaos that tore up France from the fall of the monarchy in August 1792 until July 1794 (Thermidor Year II). Each of the players belong to a different political faction, each with their own agenda. Although they are rivals, they will have to work together to prevent the armies of Austria, Prussia and Sardinia-Piedmont from reaching Paris, thereby crushing the Revolution and ending the game prematurely!

With the help of the multi-functional action cards, the players will be able to influence a number of areas in Paris (National Convention, Palais-Egalite, the Paris streets...) or the provinces. Each controlled area offers certain benefits...or will help them to perform a Coup d'Etat or Civil War. Activated leader cards (Robespierre, Marat, Dumouriez) belonging to their faction will help them in achieving their goals IF they are not arrested or assassinated!

Patriots & Traitors is fresh, assymetrical, high in replayability and very, very thematic.

Wise Advice for the College-Bound Student
Format: Kindle
I read this book after reading Newport's other study guide How to Become a Straight A Student and was looking forward to more of his easy to understand, quickly read nuggets of wisdom. Although I found the advice in his previous book to be more helpful, I did fine some words of advice that I will surely put to use in my upcoming semester. Among the gems I found, Newport reminds students to "Study in Fifty-Minute Chunks" and "Learn to Listen." In these short chapters there are ideas to help the student better utilize their time by minimizing distractions and knowing exactly what to listen for in a lecture. By far my favorite and most memorable line from this book is "A good analogy is that writing is to a college student what shooting hoops is to a basketball player." Wise advice indeed. I would recommend this book to high school an college students alike. The chapters are short and jam packed with good advice.

Good for some
Format: Paperback
Good advice but it's written for college students that don't work. Not for someone who goes to night school like I do.

An excellent story well worth a read
Format: Kindle
This was so well written, I loved every second of it. It was a lovely take on vampires and what they are or can be. Spoilers: This wasn’t an easy read for me. How Miyako’s parents acted… that was my parents only worse in a lot of ways and only better in that they never hit me as an adolescent. So reading this brought up memories of the abuse I suffered. Even so, it is a really good story and I highly recommend. I hope to read more of her stories soon and follow Miyako and see how she and her family grow as characters.
