Château Yveline 2022 Magnum is een klassieke rode Bordeaux uit Lalande-de-Pomerol, gemaakt op het kleine familiedomein van Christian Durand in Néac. De magnumfles geeft deze Merlot gedomineerde wijn extra uitstraling aan tafel en is mooi geschikt voor diners waarbij Bordeaux de hoofdrol mag spelen. Château Yveline laat precies zien waar Lalande-de-Pomerol sterk in is: soepel rood fruit, rondeur, zachte kracht en die aardse diepte die bij rijping richting truffel kan gaan.

Wijngaarden en regio

Lalande-de-Pomerol ligt in de Libournais, op de rechteroever van Bordeaux, direct naast beroemde namen als Pomerol en Saint-Émilion.

• Ligging / Herkomst: Château Yveline ligt in Néac, in het oostelijke deel van de appellation Lalande-de-Pomerol. Het domein grenst aan Pomerol en Saint-Émilion, waardoor de wijn duidelijk thuishoort in de klassieke rechteroeverstijl van Bordeaux.

• Domeingrootte: Het château heeft 3 hectare wijngaard. Die kleine schaal geeft Château Yveline het karakter van een boutique estate, met veel aandacht voor selectie en detail.

• Bodem: De Merlot staat op kleirijke bodems. Klei houdt vocht vast en helpt Merlot om rondeur, vlezigheid en elegante kracht te ontwikkelen.

• Appellation: Wat is Lalande-de-Pomerol? Lalande-de-Pomerol is een Bordeaux appellation naast Pomerol, bekend om rode wijnen met Merlot als belangrijkste druif, soepele tannines en aardse ontwikkeling bij rijping.

Druiven

Château Yveline 2022 Magnum wordt gemaakt van de klassieke druiven van de Bordeaux rechteroever.

• 90% Merlot – Lalande-de-Pomerol: Merlot vormt de basis van deze wijn en geeft hem zijn rondeur, souplesse, zachte tannines en rijpe fruitstructuur.

• 10% Cabernet Franc – Lalande-de-Pomerol: Cabernet Franc vult de blend aan met extra kracht, aromatische spanning en meer volheid in de smaak.

Vinificatie en rijping

De vinificatie volgt een klassieke Bordeaux aanpak, met veel aandacht voor selectie van het fruit.

• Oogst & Selectie: De druiven worden met de hand geoogst en 2 keer geselecteerd: eerst in de wijngaard en daarna opnieuw in de kelder op een sorteertafel. Zo komt alleen rijp en gezond fruit in de vergisting terecht.

• Vergisting: Christian Durand werkt met traditionele Bordeaux vinificatie in een combinatie van roestvrijstalen en betonnen cuves. Roestvrijstaal helpt het fruit zuiver te houden, terwijl beton bijdraagt aan een rustige, evenwichtige ontwikkeling van de wijn.

Proefnotities en serveertips

Château Yveline 2022 Magnum opent met fruitige aroma’s, zachte aardse tonen en de ronde Merlot expressie die zo herkenbaar is voor Lalande-de-Pomerol. De smaak is vol en soepel, met zachte tannines, rijp rood fruit en een elegante Bordeaux structuur. Bij verdere rijping kan de aardse geur zich ontwikkelen richting truffel.

The product itself is very watery and you need to shake the box for every use. Also, I learned that in order to have the product work, I would need a lot of product! The packaging also starts to get a bit soggy while in the bathroom overtime. I love the smell of this shampoo and I love that it is working hard to be more sustainable, but this product, unfortunately, doesn't work well and I need to use too much to clean my scalp. I will still be looking for a product that is effective and sustainable. The hunt continues!

Worked well near the equator

I bought this product because I was going to be in the field for a month, outside, every day, all day, in Tanzania at high altitude. A severe sunburn would be hard to treat in the remote area we were in, but also I am very careful about protecting my skin from aging. I had to have mineral based sunscreen because as a whitewater kayaker I know it’s the only truly water resistant kind and it was going to be sweaty. And since I knew I was going to be putting it on every day, and we didn’t have running water in the field (bucket showers only) I didn’t want it to feel gross. (I really wanted to try the spray but I didn’t want to put anything pressurized in my luggage.) And I had already discovered the Coola face sunscreen (30spf version) which had impressed me with how silky smooth and not greasy it is. Now this IS greasier because it is a higher SPF. BUT I think this product is as good as you’re going to get with the protection you’re getting. Like I said, I’m a white water tiger, so I have used a LOT of mineral sunscreens. This was hands down the most comfortable one I’ve used. And it was effective. I didn’t burn once—only time I did burn was when I forgot to put it on one day toward the end of the trip, when we were out for just a couple hours—and I got the first 2nd degree burn I’ve ever had in my life. That was what this stuff had protected me from, all day every day, the entire trip. I did tan a little but I think that was mostly from the few times I was not covered during short bouts or it was cloudy. For my face I used the Coola 50spf face product.

This is one of the healthier sunscreens I’ve found so far. You’re not likely going to find a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t leave some white cast. However, this one rubs in pretty good with minimal cast. You can dab on and rub in fairly easily… as long as you don’t use too much the white cast should be minimal. I am not sure how well this would work on darker skin tones. My arms are a medium skin tone… my legs are more of a light-medium tone. I prefer mineral sunscreens, and this is the best one I found so far and compatible to Supergoop mineral play. If you liked that one, you would likely enjoy this Coola one too.
