De wijnstokken groeien op de heuvels van Faugères, waar de bodems voornamelijk bestaan uit schist, een gesteente dat bekend staat om zijn goede drainage en het vermogen om warmte vast te houden. De Syrah-druiven worden voor 50 procent geplet en vervolgens gevinificeerd. Hierbij wordt minimale overpomping toegepast, slechts enkele dagelijkse bevochtigingen van de druivenschillen. Dit proces helpt om de extractie van de gewenste aroma's en tannines te optimaliseren. Voor de Grenache en Carignan druiven duurt het vinificatieproces ongeveer 3 weken bij een gecontroleerde temperatuur van 28 graden. Tijdens deze periode wordt er regelmatig belucht en overgepompt om de extractie van kleur en smaakstoffen te bevorderen. Dit zorgt ervoor dat de wijn een rijke en volle smaak krijgt. Na de gisting worden de malolactische fermentaties uitgevoerd. Na de vinificatie rijpt de wijn gedurende 6 maanden in vaten. Het gebruik van eikenhouten vaten voegt extra complexiteit toe aan de wijn en helpt om de aroma's van rijp fruit en kruiden te versterken, terwijl de tannines worden verzacht en geïntegreerd.De karaktervolle wijn Calmel & Joseph Le Gaillard Faugeres
Calmel & Joseph Le Gaillard Faugères is een wijn met een schitterende kersenrode kleur in het glas. De neus wordt verleid door subtiele hints van potlood, verse munt en een vleugje vlezige aroma's. Worth the Wait

Kathryn Stockett's The Calamity Club is well worth the wait, just as good or even better than The Help. This historical novel has all the literary ingredients to be added to the classics. This book is both engaging and horrifying since it reveals the cruel beliefs in Mississippi's past and explains the rigid mind-set of contemporary politics and culture. I was incensed by the ignorance and lack of empathy. However, as throughout history, the theme of women helping other women gave the story conflict, suspense, and lots of humor. The characters and plot are so engaging I would like a follow-up story, maybe a part two. I am ready for a movie version, if Meg and Birdie are well cast. The Calamity Club was worth the wait!

Entertaining

I read this book on Kindle in about 3 days. Birdie Calhoun, one of the main narrators, has got to be one of the most likable main characters a book could create. She’s practical, God-fearing, driven, smart, and loyal. Meg, the second narrator, is witty and humorous to listen to, especially since you’re seeing things through the eyes of an eleven year old orphan. There are a few big reveals throughout the book, and around the midpoint there is a shift in storyline which will tell you how the book got its name. I saw some reviews say the book is a bit long, which doesn’t bother me. I see how the length may be necessary given the fact that the author had to bounce between two separate story lines and then merge them in the end. My only feedback about the length would be there is a lot of time and detail during the middle of the book (especially Meg’s time with her adoptive family) but less time spent on the ending, leaving things a bit rushed and many characters’ fate ambiguous. I found myself wanting more closure for characters Frances & Mrs. Tartt, as well as the boarders such as Flossy.
On a historical level, this book provides context for a dark time in America where society wanted to annex anyone deemed undesirable or peculiar, especially promiscuous women. Society was hyper focused on separating the pious from the “imbeciles” and punished anyone whose lives didn’t fit the perfect Christian mold. This caused characters like Frances and Mrs. Tartt to be obsessed with their reputation, and fear of tainted reputation is a huge factor in decision making amongst the main characters. Birdie, Meg, and Charlie seem to be the main characters willing to take huge risks and sacrifices for those that they love. This book inspired me to do some of my own research and I learned something new about American history.

An incredibly strong and memorable story.

Though she is big 656 paged girl, she offers so much heart.
Lord how I loved this book. The characters were just so good together. Out of hardships, these women bound together for reasons of their own. Some of those reasons were tangled up with the other and none were wiser. Each, making an impact on another. This story offers hope where there’s tragedy, faith to persevere, lasting friendships, and love. Meg’s story of never giving up hope for her mother’s return, held me completely captive.
💖 Thank you Kathryn Stockett for penning a strong and memorable novel. Well done!

A book that hugs back.

I picked this book for my brother-in-law when we were celebrating my sister’s pregnancy, and the title ‘Why a daughter needs a dad’ sealed the deal. The illustrations are beautiful and full of tenderness. The messages on each page are simple and meaningful. I could so clearly picture him reading it to his baby girl someday. It’s the kind of book that isn’t just read – it’s felt. A thoughtful gift for someone you love – especially during such a special season of life.
