Gaze UponYzan groeide op in een klein boerendorp in Zuid Afrika, waar ze al op jonge leeftijd met kunst experimenteerde. Door beperkte toegang tot kunstonderwijs werd ze op 15 jarige leeftijd naar een school gestuurd met een kunstleraar. Op 17 jarige leeftijd werd haar werk internationaal tentoongesteld in de Verenigde Staten. Ze studeerde af in grafisch ontwerp maar bleef zich artistiek ontwikkelen in o. a. fotografie, klei, sieraden en schilderkunst.

Yzane schildert realistische menselijke figuren in kleurvlakken en voelt zich aangetrokken tot nostalgische strand- en vakantietaferelen. Ook haar liefde voor onderwaterfotografie speelt een rol in haar werk. Haar schilderijen stralen een speelse, levendige energie uit. Voor Yzane is kunst een vorm van heling en zelfontdekking. Haar werk wordt gekenmerkt door een unieke toets van licht en glorie.
