De Republiek onderscheidde zich door vernieuwingen op de meest uiteenlopende gebieden: politiek met zijn republikeinse systeem, technisch met zijn inpolderingen, economisch met zijn bankinstellingen, artistiek met zijn wereldberoemde schilders, en religieus met een tolerantie die destijds uitzonderlijk was. De Gouden Eeuw in 500 portretten, taferelen & analyses geeft een levendig beeld van deze unieke periode aan de hand van meer dan 500 bijdragen, geschreven door meer dan 130 specialisten, die alle terreinen bestrijken: van slavenhandel tot Bijbeluitleg, van koloniën tot schilderkunst, van oorlogen tot kaasmakerij, van overstromingen tot scheepsbouw, van schaatsen tot de radicale Verlichting. Beknopte biografieën van filosofen, kunstenaars, historische figuren en vooraanstaande families, en geschreven portretten van de belangrijkste Nederlandse steden, maken dit kleurrijke portret van de Gouden Eeuw compleet. Elke bijdrage gaat vergezeld van een schitterende, soms paginagrote, kleurenafbeelding. Ook zijn speciaal voor het boek nieuwe, op de laatste stand van de wetenschap gebaseerde kaarten getekend. Een meer up-to-date en omvattend beeld van de Gouden Eeuw is de komende decennia niet te verwachten. Deze uitgave bestaat uit twee banden. Willem Frijhoff (1942) is emeritus-hoogleraar moderne geschiedenis van de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam en gasthoogleraar cultuurgeschiedenis aan de Erasmus Universiteit te Rotterdam. Hij was aan meerdere Europese universiteiten verbonden, is eredoctor van de universiteit van Bergen (Henegouwen) en lid van de Academia Europaea. Catherine Secretan (1950) was als onderzoekster verbonden aan het wereldberoemde Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) en is auteur van talrijke bijdragen over de ideeëngeschiedenis van Nederland, en laureaat van de Académie des Sciences morales et politiques en van de Frans-Nederlandse Descartes-Huygensprijs. Andreas Nijenhuis-Bescher (1972) is sinds 2018 werkzaam aan de Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul (Zuid-Korea), na lange tijd aan universiteiten in Frankrijk verbonden te zijn geweest. Hij is hoogleraar Dutch Area Studies. Zijn onderzoek concentreert zich, vanuit een internationaal perspectief, op sociale geschiedenis, religieuze coëxistentie en conflicten, en politieke iconografie.Shipping Notes

I absolutely love these watches! They are built like a tank. They can take a lot of abuse and still keep great time. I originally was going to buy just one to replace my old watch. Ended up buying several of them. Great gifts. The watches are beautiful and elegant, and I feel like a thief when I buy them because the price is so low I think its a typo. I have gotten several compliments on them when I wear them. I have busted up concrete and cleared heavy terrain ,cleaning areas out, wipe then off and they look Like I just took them out of the box. The only thing, and it's not a big deal to me.But the glow in the dark arms don't last long. They even give you the tool to adjust the wristband. Who does that🤣 The Quality of these watches are phenomenal BUY ONE! You won't be disappointed.

Very handsome well-made watch comfortable to wear.

Very handsome watch. At first glance, it resembles a Rolex. In two days I’ve gotten multiple compliments. Several have asked if it was a Rolex. That’s hardly what I was going for, in fact I had to look up Rolex watches to see what was being referenced. The watch fits very comfortably.
