• Facts of note: The Babcock introduced in 1933, is one of the early introductions of white peach that became a standard in the California home garden. The Babcock remains a home garden favorite today! A cross done in 1909 between the popular Strawberry white peach and the white fleshed Peento or donut peach, the juiciness and flavor were to become the standard for all white-fleshed peaches for decades. The University of California researchers E.B Babcock and C O Smith were looking for a low-chill variety of peach for Southern California. The Babcock proved to be just that, freestone, extra sweet fruit with smooth juicy flesh, it was better than anything else of the time. The fruit is medium-sized, red-blushed with creamy white flesh. Babcock peaches are low acid, sweet, juicy, and fragrant, and always a taste test favorite!
