Dr. John R. Sittema, author of the well-beloved With a Shepherd's Heart, has written this marvelous new book, exploring the Old Testament feasts and how they are fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells the unique story of the history of God’s redemption, focusing on the central character—Jesus. It was difficult for the ancient people of Israel to put their faith and hope in a Messiah who would not make his appearance for more than a thousand years, so God gave them a series of feasts that provided a hint of the One who was coming. Today, we too must know something about the feasts that celebrate Jesus to truly comprehend that he is the Messiah. Join author John Sittema, and meet Jesus at the feasts!

______________
What's with all those feasts in the Old Testament, and who cares anyway? The author answers this question with a resounding "they all point clearly to Jesus Christ and his Church!" The author of this excellent little book, John R. Sittema, is always thorough, never tedious as he goes from the Sabbath to the Year of Jubilee. Along the way he gives clear answers to questions like "what is meant by resting on the Sabbath?" His drawing out of the parallels between the Passover Lamb in the Old Testament and the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ makes the reader wonder anew at the breadth and depth of Christ's redeeming work. But the story doesn't end here. Onward to the last chapter, to the Year of Jubilee, a feast which the Israelites were instructed to observe, but never did. Sittema shows how this last feast was a foreshadowing of victorious life of the "New Community." David C. Buursma
