OriginNative to the southeastern United States, typically found in clear, cool, fast-flowing streams and creeks with rocky or gravel bottoms.
FeedingOmnivorous and easy to feed. Accepts flakes, small pellets, frozen foods (brine shrimp, daphnia), and live foods. Supplementing with high-quality colour-enhancing foods helps maintain peak coloration.
Tank MatesPeaceful schooling fish. Best kept with other non-aggressive temperate species such as other shiners, danios, white cloud minnows, or small barbs. Avoid large or predatory fish.
AggressionVery low aggression. Displays only mild chasing within its school. Keep in groups of 6+ for natural behaviour and colouration.
Experience LevelSuitable for beginners and intermediate keepers. Hardy and adaptable, though prefers well-oxygenated, clean water with steady flow.
