The Story behind Queen Lozikeyi

 

Inspired by the legacy of Queen Lozikeyi of the Ndebele Kingdom, this African wall art honours a woman remembered for her courage, political leadership, and determination during a time of conflict and change. After the disappearance of King Lobengula, Queen Lozikeyi became a guiding force for her people and played a key role in organising resistance during the First Chimurenga War. The zebra beside her symbolises balance, resilience, and quiet strength, while the Himba-inspired adornment and rich African landscape reflect the beauty and cultural depth of southern Africa. Through layered symbolism and personal connection to Zimbabwe’s landscapes, Jedidah’s work celebrates African queens whose leadership and legacy continue to inspire generations.
