Featherfin Cichlid Cyathopharynx Furcifer 4cmOverview: The Featherfin Cichlid, scientifically known as Cyathopharynx furcifer, is a magnificent African cichlid admired for its striking coloration and elongated, flowing fins. With its vibrant hues and graceful swimming style, this species makes a captivating centerpiece in any aquarium.
Origin: Native to the rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa, the Featherfin Cichlid thrives in clear, oxygen-rich waters. Its natural habitat is characterized by rocky substrates, where males establish territories to attract females.
Feeding: Featherfin Cichlids are omnivores with a preference for a varied diet. In captivity, they should be fed high-quality cichlid pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and mysis shrimp. Including vegetable matter like spirulina flakes is beneficial for their overall health and coloration.
Tank Mates: Featherfin Cichlids are best kept with other species from Lake Tanganyika that share similar water requirements. Suitable tank mates include other peaceful Tanganyikan cichlids like Julidochromis, Altolamprologus, and certain shell-dwellers. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive species or those from different regions.
Aggression: While generally peaceful, Featherfin Cichlids can become territorial, especially during breeding. Males may display aggression towards one another when competing for space and mates. Providing ample space, rocky structures, and hiding spots can help mitigate territorial disputes and promote harmony in the tank.
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced. Due to their specific habitat needs and potential territorial behavior, Featherfin Cichlids are best suited for aquarists with experience in maintaining African cichlids and creating species-specific tanks.
Water Parameters: Maintain water temperatures between 75-81°F (24-27°C), a pH of 8.0-9.0, and hard water (12-20 dGH). Regular water changes and careful monitoring of water quality are essential to replicate their natural environment and keep them healthy.
In summary, the Featherfin Cichlid is a stunning and graceful species that brings beauty and elegance to any aquarium. With their vibrant colors and peaceful nature, they are a rewarding choice for experienced aquarists seeking to create a specialized African cichlid tank.

Great Story about Native Americans before Europeans
Format: Paperback
I read this book with my kids (11,8) as part of our unit on Native Americans before colonization. They both really enjoyed it. It helped to humanize history for them and show them that although the cultural practices were different, the characters experienced some of the same feelings, relationship challenges, and personal struggles and triumphs that we experience today.

Wonderful book about pre-European North America
Format: Paperback
This is a great book. There's a massive shortage of children's books written by Natives, especially ones that give a picture of pre-European America, and if you've noticed that, THIS IS THE BOOK YOU'RE LOOKING FOR to fill that hole in your home school curriculum/child's library. It's a "boy book," but my seven year old girl got through it without any complaints except that she wanted me to read ahead so I could tell her if anything scary happened. I would say that the plot is a little slow, the main story pauses a lot for background information or traditional stories. But that's not really a complaint, I don't think it's even worth taking off one star. Almost anything by Joseph Bruchac is worth your money, and this one is no exception.

Format: Hardcover
My kids love this book. It's not a super long book but long enough to give a fun storyline. Puts a fun spin on cupid.
