Back with new single ‘Suitcase,’ Standard Fare push their juxtaposition between sonically upbeat and lyrically dark to their furthest point yet. Recorded in just one day, ‘Suitcase’ is an initially infectious listen, the track laced with a simple but fully-felt rousing euphoria that feels brighter than anything the group have done previously. Scratch the surface though and you’ll find a blacker tone, the song thematically seeing its narrator preparing for a nuclear fallout, equipped with “a bunker in my backyard filled with tins and dried fruit,” her only fear being “how am I gonna save my family?”

It’s a startlingly solemn topic to find hidden away amongst such a sugar-coated gem, and yet female vocalist Emma puts a different spin on it; “it’s actually quite an uplifting song about being prepared for hard times. It touches upon issues of identity and diaspora, and fears of history repeating itself. I wrote it after one of my older Jewish family members passed away – she had survived the holocaust and was hugely inspirational to me.”

‘Suitcase’ comes backed with the more acoustic-leaning b-side ‘Nine Days’ a more understated, reflective sounding compliment to the a-side’s instantly memorable melodies, it’s evidence of a band making real inroads in pursuit of diversifying their sound. Guitarist Danny agrees, saying “we’re definitely more confident in what we’re doing and there’s a good feeling that we’re more creatively in tune with each other.”

Standard Fare met when Danny (from Buxton) and Emma (from York) were playing in other groups as teenagers. When those projects fell apart, the pair resolved to work together, and poached Andy from Danny’s brother’s band. Early practices were held in Andy’s loft in Buxton, “and then in his Nan’s living room when they got too loud.” Music is a family business for Emma too – her mother was in ‘80s anarcho-punks Poison Girls.

With demand to see them live growing globally, it looks like Emma will be getting to use her suitcase in rather more hopeful circumstances than those she’s been preparing for.

Trashed after one wash
Color: Beige, Size: Small
It’s a great looking shirt. The price is good. The fit is good. But it’s so scratchy that it’s like wearing a potato sack. And after washing it ONCE it pilled so bad that I had to throw it away because it looked like an electrical sander had been used on it. But this is what Amazon has become: bad quality everything.

Coofandy has cool shirts!
Size: Large, Color: Army Green
Love this brand. Everything fits! Husband loves the sort of linen shirts. I buy a lot of clothes there too. Go for it. The price is right and if you don't like it, return it, but I think you'll love it!

Not as advertised, but I like it! This run runs small and not the blend stated.
Size: 4X-Large, Color: Sky Blue
I rely on your reviews a lot, so I am paying it forward here. I needed a summery, lightweight linen type shirt with long sleeves because I'm an old, fat guy and I'm getting those ugly, purple bruises on my arms (if you're under 65, just wait ;). I just got my shirt today. I read the reviews and everybody said the quality, sizing and the material were all over the board and mine is no different. The label on mine says 60% cotton, 30% viscose and 10% linen. That's a far cry from the 70% Rayon and 30% Linen as stated. However, this material is very light and smooth and has a lot of stretch. The label can't be correct for the material to have this much stretch, but I like it. It doesn't look anything like the picture either. It has a sort of linen like look, but more of a chambray weave look I would say. And it smells oddly nice, too. I'm sure whatever the smell is will go away after washing, but for now, it's a nice, pleasant, new shirt smell. Must be the Viscose or whatever is in this shirt. It definitely has at least 2% Lycra to be able to stretch like this. Also, the sizing is way off. For reference, I am 5'6" and 270 with a 52" waist (I told you, old, short and fat :). Many of the reviewers said it ran small, so I ordered up to a 4x and it fits just about perfectly for me. I normally wear a 3x and in some shirts that's too big. This is loose enough but not blousey and most importantly, covers my big belly nicely. The stretch in the fabric is a bonus. So I guessed right with the 4x. However, read the reviews and you will see that the sizing appears to be all over the board. Finally, the pocket is oddly small. It is fine for my purposes and I absolutely need a pocket to put my sunglasses in and other various little things, but at least in my version, beware that the pocket is oddly small. I think I got lucky with my order and got what I wanted by default. I will have to be careful washing it, or it might shrink too much (there's no telling what this fabric really is). It is also fairly wrinkled out of the package, but being the cotton/viscose blend that it says it is, it should iron out nicely and not wrinkle with wearing. We shall see. I'm impressed with the silky feeling and light weight of this shirt and although it doesn't really look like a linen shirt, it looks casual enough for me to fit the bill. I will be wearing it with the sleeves rolled up anyway, as I just needed something that looks casually sharp and can cover the ugly bruises on my forearms. As you can tell if you read through the reviews, what you might get seems to be somewhat of a crap shoot, but I like mine, so good luck!
