Among modern vacuum-fillers, the Pilot Custom 823 Amber Fountain Pen stands apart for its effortless reliability and quietly handsome presence. The translucent amber resin offers a warm window onto the pen's mechanism and ink reserve, while a 14k gold nib delivers Pilot's characteristically smooth, controlled line. It is a tool built for serious writing, with the capacity and consistency to match long sessions at a desk or in a notebook.

Craftsmanship & Design

The Custom 823 pairs a balanced, elongated silhouette with a transparent amber barrel and cap that showcase the vacuum plunger assembly inside. Gold-plated accents and a large, elegantly proportioned nib complete the classic profile without excess ornament. The screw-on cap includes an inner seal to help resist ink dry-out between uses, and the clear resin makes monitoring ink levels intuitive at a glance.

Fit and finish are what enthusiasts expect from Pilot: crisp threads, a precise plunger stroke, and trim that aligns cleanly. The overall impression is purposeful and refined, more instrument than showpiece, yet with a warmth that comes from the amber translucence and gold details.

Writing Experience

The Custom 823 uses Pilot's large #15 14k gold nib, available in fine, medium, or broad. Each grade is tuned for dependable starts and a steady, wet-leaning flow that flatters everyday paper while keeping handwriting crisp. The vacuum-filling system draws a substantial volume of ink in a single stroke, and the shut-off valve at the end of the barrel helps prevent leaks during travel. For extended writing, simply loosen the end cap slightly to allow continuous flow from the reservoir to the feed.

In use, the nib glides with calm assurance rather than showy softness. It rewards a light touch, keeps up with fast notes or careful journaling, and remains predictable across a wide range of inks. Combined with the large capacity, it is a pen you can load and trust for the long haul.

Brand Heritage

Pilot has refined gold nib making and practical filling systems in Japan since 1918. The Custom 823 sits in the brand's upper tier not because of flash, but because it integrates thoughtful engineering with the quiet excellence of Pilot nibs. For writers who value function refined to a high polish, it has become a modern classic.

Excellent short-book analysis
Format: Paperback
This short book is an outstanding analysis of how nations end wars, or accept peace. Ikle shows how governments often prefer obviously self-destructive courses rather then compromise peace terms. The problem is most acute when factional interests dominate strategy rather then a rational unitary interest. In such a circumstance, factions that benefit from continuing the war will accuse those pursuing peace of treason. Sadly, there is no equivalent derogatory word in English for those who pursue war to the detriment of their country. The book was first written in 1971, and most of the examples are from the two world wars. The work is still extremely relevant, and at 130 pages it's well worth the time. Highly recommended as a first book to read on ending war.

99% @ 20 micron for the Pentastar V6!
Size: (Pack of 1)
Really nice quality filter, and a good replacement for the Fram TG11665 that's now become more expensive & harder to find. 99% efficiency @ 20 micron. Pleat spacing was smooth & even with no excess glue; made in South Korea.

Perfect fit for 2019 Jeep 3.2L engine
Size: (Pack of 1)
No way to really know how a filter is doing without a close examination AFTER it is used, but then the amount of debris trapped by a filter depends on how much debris is generated by the engine. But this filter looks to be quality constriction and is rated to 15,000 miles using synthetic oil. The brand is well known and has been in business for many decades, trusted by many.
