TRES GENERACIONES DE MUJERES CHINAS EN BUSCA DE RESPUESTAS PARA EL DUELO, EL AMOR, EL EXILIO, LA IDENTIDAD Y EL PERDÓN

CÓMIC DEL AÑO -Time - The Guardian - NPR - Library Journal - Kirkus Reviews - New York Public Library - Indigo

FINALISTA. -Andrew Carnegie Medal. -Nonfiction Kirkus Prize

"Feeding Ghosts reminds us how much the personal is political . . . an audacious, awe-inspiring feat. For me, it was an essential read." ―Ling Ma, author of Bliss Montage

An astonishing, deeply moving graphic memoir about three generations of Chinese women, exploring love, grief, exile, and identity.

In her evocative, genre-defying graphic memoir, Tessa Hulls tells the story of three generations of women in her family: her Chinese grandmother, Sun Yi; her mother, Rose; and herself.

Sun Yi was a Shanghai journalist caught in the political crosshairs of the 1949 Communist victory. After eight years of government harassment, she fled to Hong Kong with her daughter. Upon arrival, Sun Yi wrote a bestselling memoir about her persecution and survival, used the proceeds to put Rose in an elite boarding school―and promptly had a breakdown that left her committed to a mental institution. Rose eventually came to the United States on a scholarship and brought Sun Yi to live with her.

Tessa watched her mother care for Sun Yi, both of them struggling under the weight of Sun Yi's unexamined trauma and mental illness. Vowing to escape her mother's smothering fear, Tessa left home and traveled to the farthest-flung corners of the globe (Antarctica). But at the age of thirty, it starts to feel less like freedom and more like running away, and she returns home to face the history that shaped her family.

Extensively researched and gorgeously rendered, Feeding Ghosts is Hulls's homecoming, a vivid journey into the beating heart of one family, set against the dark backdrop of Chinese history. By turns fascinating and heartbreaking, inventive and poignant, Feeding Ghosts exposes the fear and trauma that haunt generations, and the love that holds them together.

Runs true to size and well made!
Color: Black, Size: Medium
I am very pleased with the size and cut of this top. I hesitated on sizing (at 5'1" and 105 lb) because I like a looser fit and am sometimes given different size recommendations. Many times the tops are too large and must be altered or simply passed on to thrift stores. This shirt in a medium is perfect in its fit, flows nicely. The neckline is not too low, but more like a shirt with a couple of top buttons unbuttoned- no gap. The sleeve length is good for me as my shoulders are a bit narrow. (I checked and no way to remove the stitches that hold the sleeve into a cuff. They are deeply embedded into this soft opaque fabric that has some stretch. (Even with the best of seam rippers and sharp eyesight!)I think the rolled cuff is cute! Top drapes well and is a great length for jeans or shorts- dressy casual wear, with its perfect fabric thickness. I really like the black color. I would not wear it with leggings because of the length, but jeggings are great with it. The little contrasting buttons are a nice touch. Great value buy.

Great material! Comfortable fit!
Color: White, Size: Large
Great quality! Very soft material and holds its shape after wear and is not see-through. V-neck and buttons are positioned properly and the cap sleeve looks great! Have not washed yet but with the material I am thinking it will hold. I originally ordered L based on reviews, but it's too big all over so re-ordering in M. I'm 5'4", 135 for reference.

Super comfy and pretty
Color: Black, Size: X-Large
Fit is nice and comfortable!!! Soft in the inside as well! It’s not huge but also doesn’t stick to me. You can literally wear it down (casual with jeans or shorts) or dress up (like I did for Mother’s Day with a nice skirt and jacket) Seems breathable enough for our California heat

Great buy. Love this shirt!
Color: Teal, Size: Medium
This shirt is so great. The color is absolutely stunning and vibrant! The material is so soft and comfortable. I use it as a casual work shirt with capri leggings, and stay comfortable all day. It definitely runs a bit large. I am short so it hangs very long but I like my shirts that way for work. I am usually somewhere between a small and a medium and I like a loose fit so I got a Medium. This was almost too big for me to wear, but I am making it work. I plan to buy this shirt in multiple colors and will get a small next time. For reference, I am 5"2', 126lbs, bra size 34 C.
