Overview: The Dotted Catfish, scientifically known as Synodontis Multimaculatus, is a uniquely patterned and highly sought-after freshwater fish. Known for its distinctive spots and active demeanor, this species adds both dynamism and visual appeal to any aquarium. Growing up to 8 inches in length, the Dotted Catfish is both hardy and adaptable, making it a fascinating addition for enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Origin: Native to the rivers and lakes of Central Africa, the Synodontis Multimaculatus thrives in a variety of water conditions. Its natural habitat ranges from fast-flowing streams to quiet, submerged riverbanks, where it uses its barbels to search for food among the substrate.

Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, the Dotted Catfish's diet should include a balanced mix of high-quality sinking pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and occasional vegetable supplements. This varied diet helps mimic their natural feeding habits and ensures optimal health and coloration.

Tank Mates: When considering tank mates, it's important to pair the Dotted Catfish with similarly sized, peaceful to semi-aggressive fish. They generally cohabit well with larger tetras, robust barbs, and medium-sized cichlids. Avoid overly aggressive species that might see the catfish as competition or prey.

Aggression: Synodontis Multimaculatus exhibits a low to moderate level of aggression. While it is mostly peaceful, this species can become territorial with other bottom-dwellers. Providing plenty of hiding spaces and a spacious tank can minimize potential conflicts.

Experience Level: This species is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. While not overly demanding, maintaining the appropriate water conditions and diet requires a certain level of aquarium care experience.

Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: 75-82°F (24-28°C)
  • pH: 6.5-7.8
  • Hardness: 4-15 dGH
Regular water changes and a well-filtered aquarium are essential to mimic the clean, oxygen-rich waters of their natural environment. With the right care, the Dotted Catfish can be a long-living and captivating member of your aquatic community.

At least they are sterile
These are funny being advertised as dermaplane because they are packaged as scalpels. The 5 scalpels are individually wrapped, and labeled sterile. As the price indicates, they are on the cheap side. Which is fine, they work, but they aren’t terribly sharp so you have to scrape a bit harder than preferred. For dermaplaning I prefer the schick ones as they have tiny serrations which cut the hair better than anything else I have found so far.
