The Ethernet network interface complies with the IEEE 802.3 specification for 10BaseT and 100BaseTx. Both full duplex and half duplex modes are supported. The PMC-3101 includes 3 Kbytes of transmit and 3 Kbytes of receive FIFO, allowing back-to-back transmission with minimum interface latency. It also features a 10BaseT and 100BaseTx auto-detection CSMA/CD interface controller. The physical interface is supported via the built-in Physical Layer Interface Unit in the Ethernet controller. It supports a number of sophisticated features, including auto negotiation, collision detection, link detection, Manchester encoding/decoding (10BaseTx), 4B/5B encoding/decoding (100BaseTx), and scrambling/descrambling (100BaseTx). The PMC-3101 includes two front panel RJ45 ports for network connectivity, or may optionally be ordered with I/O access via the rear panel P4 connector. The PMC-3101 is supported for popular operating systems including VxWorks and Windows NT. The module is compliant with standard single-wide PMC specifications IEEE P1386.1.
