Produced by Garcia and John Kahn the track list includes several new Garcia/Hunter originals including the title track, "Midnight Getaway" plus choice covers of Bob Dylan and The Beatles among others. Run for the Roses features the first appearance by organist Melvin Seals who remained with Garcia for the next 15 years. The album artwork was created by legendary psychedelic visual artist Victor Moscoso. Jerry Garcia was best known for his work as the lead guitarist and as a vocalist with the band Grateful Dead, which came to prominence during the counterculture era in the 1960s. Although he disavowed the role, Garcia was viewed by many as the leader or "spokesman" of the group."

this book is kinda mediocre. the first story was amazing. great art, great story, and great dialogue. very cool perspective on what seems like the covenants first encounter with the flood. the dialogue-less one about sgt johnson surviving in a flood infested area was pretty good too. the armor testing story wasn’t bad but kinda felt like a waste of time. and the last one had such terrible art i couldn’t even read it. but i also enjoyed reading the “behind the scenes” author’s notes before and after each story.

So bad it’s hard to believe

I bought this to see the story about the half-jaw white elite, one of my favorite characters. In that regard it was fantastic. That story and its art are epic. The next two stories were HORRENDOUS. The middle two stories truly look like they were drawn by talented 8th graders. The dialogue is cringe for the second story and the third story is wordless. There are also resolution issues throughout. Pictures don’t really get across just how UGLY the middle two stories are. The fourth and last story looks like an actual professional artist did it, but I’m too traumatized to try to read it. The foreword is insufferable and irrelevant and the end of the book is filled with fan art that is not quite charming in a book I paid money for.
