Handmade in Italy, this phenomenal-looking briarwood and elm veneer chessboard is finished in an extra-thick coating of quality lacquer. The briarwood burl has an amazing depth of grain with a really seductive pattern that holds a number of different shades of colour. Rich yellows follow deep reds, follow rich red browns. The inlaid veneer squares are bordered with an elegant strip of ebony that sections off the playing area from the edge.
The underside of the board features a lacquered wooden veneer and has felting pads to protect surfaces underneath. The rich yellows and reds of this board best suit ebony and rosewood pieces with a king height of 3.25 to 3.75 inches.
