Measuring 4 ft 3 in x 4 ft (129.5 cms x 121.9 cms) this is a Sine (Senneh) kilim originally woven by Kurdish Tribal weavers in and around the mountainous regions of Far South Eastern Turkey 60 years ago. Senneh Rugs are highly appreciated for their finely woven, slit-weave structure and intricate patterns and designs in which floral motifs are encased in geometric medallions. They are constructed from very finely hand-spun, 100% lambswool warp and weft coloured by natural dyes. Most Sine weaving designs involve small, detailed and intricate repeat patterns such as the herati (diamond lattice patterns incorporated into a tangle of leaves and blossoms) and all over boteh (leaf with a curling tip) which may comprise the entire central field or be complimented by the inclusion of a medallion scheme of a concentric hexagonal medallion centrepiece and straight arched ends, spandrels or quarter panels. Paired arabesques often feature in the detailed borders which typically extended around the perimeter of the kilim. This rug is a beautiful example of fine Sine weaving with a rich colour palette, intricate designs and precise, tight weaving. Due to the tightness of the weaving and the quality of the finely-spun wool used in its' construction, this rug may benefit from use of a non-slip underlay or rug pad to prevent movement on smooth surfaces.
