Laurie Hill is a short-lived ABC sitcom that aired from September 30 to October 28, 1992. Created by Neal Marlens and Carol Black, and produced by Touchstone Television, the series blends workplace comedy with family life.

The show stars DeLane Matthews as Dr. Laurie Hill, a dedicated pediatrician juggling the demands of a busy medical practice with her responsibilities at home. Laurie strives to make time for her husband Jeff (Robert Clohessy), a freelance writer working from home, and their energetic five-year-old son Leo (Eric Lloyd).

Today, Laurie Hill is best remembered for launching the television career of Ellen DeGeneres, who appears as Laurie’s sharp-tongued nurse, Nancy MacIntyre. Also featured in the cast are Kurt Fuller as Dr. Spencer Kramer, Joseph Maher as Dr. Walter Wiseman, and Doris Belack as Beverly Fielder.

From the moment of its premiere, DeGeneres drew critical praise. In the September 30, 1992 edition of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, columnist Tom Jicha wrote:

“The only comic relief comes from Ellen DeGeneres as Laurie’s assistant. It’s a brief—almost cameo—appearance, but it’s sufficient to raise speculation she would make a more enjoyable character in her own program.”

That prediction soon proved accurate. Following Laurie Hill’s cancellation, Marlens and Black—along with partner David Rosenthal—secured a new development deal with ABC. The result was the sitcom pilot These Friends of Mine, which debuted as a mid-season replacement in March 1994 and once again featured DeGeneres as a breakout performer. The series was later retooled to center on her character and continued under the title Ellen, running successfully until 1998.

This two-disc set includes five of the ten episodes produced—the complete run that aired before cancellation.

Thick material
These are really nice. Will be great in cooler weather as they are heavier than a summer sock.

Weird Toe-Hole Not Pictured for Product
These socks arrived with a super weird toe-hole that is certainly not pictured on the product photo. If you're over 8, your big toe ain't fitting in that hole. Unless... it finds its way partially into the hole while sleeping and you awake in the middle of the night from startling big toe-pain. Alas, all is not lost! It is super easy to *carefully* cut the toe-hole seam. The result: The pair of toe free socks you thought you purchased in the first place.

Waste of money...
The concept is interesting, however this particular product is a fail. There is not enough elastic/support and the seam by your toes moves quite a bit when you walk allowing the material to swallow your toes and can bunch up under the pad of your foot. Very uncomfortable and annoying. Don't waste your money, these socks belong in the trash!
