Compact, High-Yielding Plantain Variety

Botanical Name: Musa
Common Names: Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain
Family: Musaceae
Origin: Caribbean (Puerto Rico)

The Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain (Musa) is a compact and productive plantain variety known for its small stature and high fruit yields. Unlike taller plantain varieties, the Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain reaches only about 6-8 feet in height, making it ideal for smaller gardens or container growing. The plant produces medium-sized bunches of plantains that are perfect for cooking, whether fried, boiled, or baked. This variety is popular in the Caribbean, especially in Puerto Rico, for its versatility in traditional dishes like tostones and mofongo. Its compact size, hardiness, and productivity make it a favorite for home gardeners and small farms alike.

Distinctive Features, Uses, and Nutritional Value

Fruits: Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain produces medium-sized, green-skinned fruits that can be used at any stage of ripeness. The plantains are starchy when green, making them ideal for frying or boiling, and become sweeter as they ripen. Rich in potassium, fiber, and vitamins A and C, plantains are a nutritious staple in many tropical cuisines.

Foliage: The plant has large, broad, green leaves typical of banana and plantain plants. The leaves can also be used for wrapping and steaming food in traditional dishes.

Growth Habit: The plant reaches a compact height of 6-8 feet, making it easier to manage and harvest than taller plantain varieties. Its smaller size makes it suitable for growing in containers or small spaces.

Culinary and Ornamental Uses

The Dwarf Puerto Rican Plantain is highly valued for its culinary versatility. The plantains can be used green for savory dishes like tostones (fried plantains) or ripe for sweet plantain dishes. The plant’s compact size and attractive foliage also make it an appealing addition to edible landscapes, especially in tropical or subtropical climates.

Must Have Beauty Product
This one of my favorite and must have beauty products. Works so quickly for chapped lips and just keeping my lips soft every day. The formula isn’t sticky at all and you can really feel how hydrating and nourishing it is

Amazing product but star down on price
I desperately needed a healing lip balm for my perpetually chapped and scarred lips, and at first was skeptical that this was nothing but a glorified aquaphor, which works well enough for me but I was curious about better treatments. After some weeks of regular use, my lips feel incredible. I am sold. I only wish two things: that it was a smidgen cheaper, and that there was a version with SPF so I could have one to wear out during the day and have it’s magic working all the time.

Fantastic for rosacea, PD, atopic dermatitis, dry skin
I’ve been using this for close to a year and it is amazing for my super sensitive and dry skin. I have perioral dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea and live in Minnesota with bitter cold and the heater running over half the year. Cicalfate cream doesn’t flare any of these and it helps reduce redness and completely resolves dry skin. I use about a pea size amount AM and PM,, apply to dry skin, massage in, then mist with the Avene thermal water spray. Although the cream is thick, the slight white cast absorbs within a few minutes. I do not wear foundation so I don’t know how this affects it.it doesn’t burn my eyes and I’m a contact lens wearer. A big tube of cream lasts me the better part of a year.
