Overview

The Red Leaf Fish, also known as the Leaf Scorpionfish, is a fascinating and unusual reef species that mimics a drifting leaf to ambush prey. With its vibrant red, pink, or yellow hues and unique shape, this slow-moving ambush predator adds intrigue and color to any peaceful predatory or display aquarium.

Origin

Found throughout the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, Fiji, and the Great Barrier Reef, Taenianotus triacanthus inhabits coral reefs and rocky areas where it camouflages among rubble, sponges, and soft corals.

Feeding

A carnivore that prefers live foods such as small shrimp initially but can adapt to frozen meaty foods like mysis, krill, and chopped fish once established. Feed once daily, ensuring food items are appropriately sized.

Tank Mates

Best kept with peaceful fish too large to be eaten, such as tangs, angelfish, and wrasses. Avoid small fish and crustaceans, which may be viewed as prey, as well as aggressive tank mates that may harass it.

Aggression

Generally peaceful and sedentary. It relies on camouflage for protection and rarely shows aggression toward other tank mates.

Experience Level

Recommended for intermediate aquarists. Hardy once acclimated but requires careful feeding and a calm environment to thrive.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 75°F – 80°F (24°C – 27°C)
  • Salinity: 1.020 – 1.025 SG
  • pH: 8.1 – 8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8 – 12 dKH

Unusual, colorful, and captivating, the Red Leaf Fish is a true conversation piece—perfect for aquarists seeking something rare and extraordinary for their marine aquarium.

Keeps her busy!
Color: Medium size (5.9")
Our Molly loves this. Only thing is that it is a little too big for our Maltipoo, but she still tries to keep up with it.

Tough
Color: Medium size (5.9")
So far my dog hasn’t destroyed it! And it’s been a month. So I call that a win. Plus he loves it.

One Tough Ball!
Color: Blue
Our dogs are loving this ball. Our 1 yr old hound is a world-class chewer and he can't make a dent in this ball. The interactive buzzing and bouncing keeps them entertained for long durations. It's a mite noisy but the barking from the 1 yr old is much louder, lol. Even turned off, they like playing with it and chewing on it. Based on the tough construction, we think it will last much longer than traditional chew balls.

My puppy’s favorite
Color: Orange
Great quality and built to last. My dog really enjoys playing with it and stays entertained for quite a while. The material is strong yet safe, and the included drawstring bag is a convenient extra for easy storage. Is colorful and my become my puppy’s favorite.

If you love your dog…don’t buy this.
Color: Orange
We have a nonaggressive English cocker. She opened the ball every time she played with it. And yes, we are closing it as hard as we can. I do not recommend this toy for any dog! This is a dangerous toy for a dog that is not supervised.
