* Civic VI Fastback (MB), Civic VI Aerodeck (MC), and Accord VI 1.6 variants had limited or no official SA market presence. These rows apply to grey-import or privately imported vehicles. The standard SA fitment targets are the Ballade 150i (EK3) and the Civic VI Hatchback / Saloon EK1 / EK3.

Fitment Notes

  • The Honda Ballade 150i is the South African market name for the Honda Civic VI Saloon (EK3 chassis) with the D15Z4 / D15Z6 1.5 SOHC VTEC-E engine. SA Ballade 150i (1995-2000) and global EK3 Civic Saloon are the same vehicle - this bolt set fits both.
  • This bolt set covers the Honda D-series 1.5 / 1.6 petrol engine family: D15Z4, D15Z6, D15Z7, D16W1, D16W4, D16W5, D16Y5, D16B6, D16B7. All share the same cylinder head bolt specification.
  • Verify the engine code on the cylinder block matches one of the listed D-series codes before ordering. Send us your VIN if verification is needed.
  • One set per cylinder head. The Honda D-series is a 4-cylinder SOHC / DOHC design with 10 head bolts per head. One set of 10 covers one head replacement - do not order multiple sets unless rebuilding multiple engines.
  • Stretch bolts are single-use only. Once a torque-to-yield bolt has been torqued in service, it has yielded (stretched) and cannot be reliably reused. Always fit a new bolt set when removing or refitting the cylinder head.

Installation / Use / Maintenance Tips

  • Inspect each new bolt before fitting - check for damaged threads, deformed heads, or shipping damage. Discard any bolt that shows visible damage and contact us for replacement.
  • Clean the bolt holes in the cylinder block thoroughly before fitting new bolts - threads must be clean and dry. Use compressed air to remove debris from the bolt holes after machining or cleaning the block deck.
  • Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to the bolt threads and to the underside of the bolt head before fitting (unless the Honda workshop manual specifies dry installation - check the manual).
  • Hand-thread each bolt several turns before applying any tool. This prevents cross-threading the bolt holes in the aluminium cylinder block.
  • Follow the Honda factory torque sequence exactly - the bolts must be tightened in a specific cross-pattern, in stages, to ensure even clamping. Skipping the sequence causes head warpage.
  • Apply the final torque-angle stage with an angle gauge attachment on the torque wrench. Mark each bolt head with a paint pen or marker before applying the angle to track which bolts have been completed.
  • After final torque, do not re-torque the head bolts at any later interval (e.g. after first heat cycle). The Honda D-series TTY procedure is one-shot - once final-angle-torqued, the bolts are at specification and should not be disturbed.

Common Questions

What is MAP Pro?
MAP Pro is the in-house brand of Modern Auto Parts, our retail and e-commerce business based in Cape Town. MAP Pro parts are quality-tested replacement components, supplied at competitive pricing as a value alternative to premium European brands. We stand behind our MAP Pro parts with our standard return and warranty terms.

What is Victor Reinz?
Victor Reinz (now part of Dana Incorporated) is a long-established German manufacturer of engine sealing components and fasteners. Victor Reinz supplies head gasket sets, bolts, and sealing components to many European OE programmes and is widely recognised in the engine rebuild aftermarket as a premium-tier choice.

Which should I choose - Victor Reinz or MAP Pro?
Both meet the Honda OE specification and are functionally equivalent for this application. Choose Victor Reinz if you want the brand assurance of a recognised European OE supplier or are completing a premium engine rebuild. Choose MAP Pro if you want a value-tier option at lower cost. The clamping force, thread spec, and material are the same.

Why are stretch bolts single-use?
Torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts are designed to be tightened past their elastic limit into the plastic deformation range, where the bolt stretches slightly to provide consistent clamping force across all bolts in the head. Once yielded, the bolt's elasticity has been used up - reusing it produces inconsistent and unreliable clamping. Honda specifies new bolts for every head removal.

Will this fit my Honda Ballade 150i?
Yes, provided your Ballade 150i has the D15Z4, D15Z6, or D15Z7 1.5 petrol engine. The Ballade 150i (SA market) is the same vehicle as the Civic VI Saloon EK3 sold in other markets. Verify the engine code on the cylinder block matches one of the listed D-series codes.

How do I know if my engine is in this fitment list?
Check the engine code stamped on the cylinder block (typically on the front face near the timing belt area or on the side of the block). The code starts with D15 (1.5 L variants) or D16 (1.6 L variants). All listed D15 and D16 codes (D15Z4, D15Z6, D15Z7, D16W1, D16W4, D16W5, D16Y5, D16B6, D16B7) use the same head bolt specification.

Do I need new head gaskets and other head-area components too?
Yes. A complete head replacement / refit requires: a new head gasket set (head gasket, valve cover gasket, intake/exhaust manifold gaskets), the new head bolts (this set), new valve stem seals (recommended if the head is off), and Honda-specified coolant. We can supply matching head gasket sets - contact us for cross-references for your specific engine.

What torque specification do I use?
Use the Honda factory torque specification for your specific engine code (D15Z4, D15Z6, D16W1, etc.). The procedure typically involves torquing in stages (for example: stage 1 = 22 Nm, stage 2 = 47 Nm, stage 3 = additional 90 degrees by angle gauge) in a specific cross-pattern sequence. Consult the Honda workshop manual for your engine - we cannot reproduce the exact specification here because it varies by engine code and revision.

How do I confirm fitment?
Verify your vehicle and engine code against the fitment table above. The engine code is stamped on the cylinder block. If in doubt, send us your VIN and we will confirm before you order.

UPERGO Vertical Laptop Stand Review
Color: Black Walnut, Color: Black Walnut
I was absolutely blown away by the solid construction and impressive heavy weight of the UPERGO Vertical Laptop Stand. This stand securely holds my iPad Pro 13-inch with Magic Keyboard in a perfectly snug position, and adjusting it is a breeze with the included tool for the four screws on the bottom. The balance and heft of the stand are just right, giving me complete confidence that it will hold laptops, iPads, or any other devices I want neatly tucked away. Since purchasing this stand, I’ve found it fits perfectly beside my desk riser, tucking nicely out of the way and helping to organize my other devices. It has opened so much needed desk space and added a touch of order to my workspace. I highly recommend this stand to anyone looking to improve their organization—whether it’s on a nightstand, desk, table, or anywhere else you need a reliable and stylish solution.

Definitely pick one up!
Color: Black Walnut, Color: Black Walnut
This stand looks great, the material has a nice finish, and the quality is really good. It holds two MacBooks very comfortably. It doesn’t take up much space and has a good weight to it so it will not move easily. Great buy!

Finally a dual vertical stand with a stable build, quality materials, and snug fit for MacBook Pro
Color: Black Walnut, Color: Black Walnut
I don’t normally write reviews but I’ve had so much trouble finding an adequate vertical stand for two MacBook Pros that doesn’t worry me every time I look at it. I can finally say with confidence that I won’t need to replace this one. Not only is this stand attractive, it is simply a lot more sturdy than the all-metal “industrial” stand that it will replace because my MacBooks fit into it without wobbling, it has a wide surface area base, and its overall fairly heavy due to a solid wood + solid metal build. This vertical stand stands apart in the two areas that my previous two stands have failed at: 1. A snug fit with a protective lining so that the laptops don’t wobble and bump into each other (the dual Omoton I have suffers from this terribly where the laptops bump and lean against one another) 2. A solid base with enough weight to prevent the stand from tipping over from an accidental bump (my single-laptop human centric mount is beautiful, but the base is too light and narrow so that any decent contact feels that it might tip over) This stand has a very solid build quality with a nice weight to it which is comforting when potentially storing two expensive pieces of hardware in a vertical orientation that lends to tipping over (MacBook Pros are absurdly well over $2k a piece now on average). This is now the third vertical stand I’ve purchased for my two MacBook pros (work & personal). It’s not my third because I compulsively purchase things I don’t need (though I do do that), but rather because the previous two models felt unstable and carried a greater risk of damaging a few thousand dollars in equipment. Anyway, this is my first purchase from this brand but I highly recommend!
