The Cisco 10/25GBASE-LR SFP28 Module for SMF is engineered for high-performance networks that demand long-haul reach, reliability, and flexible deployment. Designed to support both 10G and 25G operation over single-mode fiber, this module provides a seamless upgrade path for data centers, enterprise campuses, and service provider backbones. With Cisco certification and robust optical design, it delivers consistent, low-latency connectivity ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications such as data center interconnect, server-to-storage links, and high-speed uplinks between core and access layers. The LR designation signifies extended reach on standard SMF, enabling you to span distances that were previously impractical without changing infrastructure. This module is manufactured to Cisco’s exacting standards, ensuring compatibility with Cisco switches and routers and offering a plug-and-play experience that minimizes downtime during upgrades or expansions.

  • Dual-speed versatility: Automatically negotiates between 10G and 25GBASE-LR to maximize link budgets and accommodate evolving traffic patterns without swapping optics.
  • Long-haul performance: Supports up to approximately 10 kilometers on standard single-mode fiber (SMF) with 1310 nm optics, enabling efficient data-center to data-center or campus-to-data-center links.
  • SMF compatibility with LC duplex: Optimized for single-mode fiber and standard LC duplex connectors, simplifying fiber infrastructure and maintenance.
  • Cisco-validated reliability: Built for Cisco networking ecosystems, guaranteeing compatibility with Catalyst and Nexus series devices and a predictable, supported upgrade path.
  • DDMI and robust design: Includes Digital Diagnostics Monitoring for real-time optical health and status, with a compact, hot-swappable SFP28 form factor designed for dense deployments.

how to install Cisco 10/25GBASE-LR SFP28 Module for SMF

Installing the Cisco 10/25GBASE-LR SFP28 Module for SMF is straightforward and enables rapid upgrades with minimal downtime. Follow these general steps to ensure a successful deployment:

  • Power down or place the connected device in a maintenance window if required by your change-control policy.
  • Locate the available SFP28 slot on the Cisco switch or router and remove any existing module if you are replacing optics.
  • Carefully align the optical interface with the connector and insert the SFP28 module straight into the slot until the module latch engages securely.
  • Connect the LC duplex fiber patch cord to the module’s LC duplex connector, ensuring proper polarity and clean connectors. Insert the fiber with care to avoid excessive bending or stress.
  • Power up the device (if applicable) and verify link status. Use the device’s management interface to confirm that the port has synchronized at the correct speed (10G or 25G) and that the link is up.
  • Run basic connectivity tests, such as ping or traceroute, and check performance counters to ensure the optical link is operating within expected parameters. If Digital Diagnostics Monitoring is available, monitor the DDMI readings for stability.

Frequently asked questions

  • What speeds does this module support? The Cisco 10/25GBASE-LR SFP28 Module supports dual-speed operation, enabling 10GBASE-LR and 25GBASE-LR over SMF with auto-negotiation to optimize link performance.
  • What type of fiber and connector do I need? It requires single-mode fiber (SMF) with LC duplex connectors. Ensure fiber is correctly polished and clean for best optical performance.
  • Is this module compatible with non-Cisco devices? This module is designed for Cisco-certified environments and is best used with Cisco switches and routers to guarantee full feature support and reliability. Compatibility with other vendors’ devices may vary and is not guaranteed.
  • Does it support Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM)? Yes. DDMI/DOM support provides real-time optical parameters such as temperature, optical power, and signal quality for proactive maintenance.
  • How do I verify the link after installation? Check the port status in your device’s management interface to confirm the link is up, observe the negotiated speed (10G or 25G), and review error counters or DDMI readings if available.
  • Are there special installation precautions? Handle the module with care, avoid touching the optical surface, store and transport in antistatic conditions, and ensure proper fiber handling to prevent micro-bends that could degrade performance.

too advanced for 18month old, but great book!
Format: Paperback
I love Richard Scarry! I bought this book for my 18 month old, who we are trying to teach to say please and thank you. Unfortunately this book is just way too advanced for her. It's full on stories rather than short pieces. I know, the suggested age was older but that is true for a lot of books that really can be enjoyed by younger tots. This one will be put away for at least another 6 months, and then kept on the shelf of "appropriate" but not in her board book box. However, I really like that she can now say "Lowly" :) Richard Scarry is one of my favorite authors/illustrators from childhood and I'm glad to have this book. It just is beyond the reach of my LO at this age.

A Favorite!
Format: Board book
Having loved Richard Scarry books as a child in the 70's, I was thrilled when he regained popularity in the 90's when we were raising our children. Now I get to share this beloved classic with my granddaughter. She LOVES her Richard Scarry books and this one is wonderful. Every page has so many beautifully illustrated details so there are always new things to look at and discover. She is 18 months old and the Richard Scarry books have been instrumental in helping her vocabulary, now over 200 words. Highly recommend that you add this awesome book to your baby's library and read, read, read to your baby every chance you get!
