     After racing a "stock" rack and pinon in our shop XP Turbo with 32" tires we just didn't see any reason to change. We didn't have any excessive wear or rattle in it even after 1500 race miles on the rack. But then, while leading our next race, BOOM, lost all steering and we were done! After a post race inspection we found that the factory rack had sheered in half right in the center of the splined rack gear allowing one half to shoot out the right and one half to shoot out the left side of the rack body.

     No problem, we thought, just order an aftermarket replacement from anyone and it must be better right? No so fast. The aftermarket replacements used rack gears that were barely .085 of an inch thicker at the same spot our rack had broken in two. Also, these racks spread the width of the tie rod pivots out as much as half of an inch. This is really bad. When you change the width of these pivot joints you add bump steer to your front end geometry. This means that as the suspension travels up and down the "Toe Setting" changes quite a bit toe in or toe out or both. This gives you nasty feed back in the steering wheel as you hit rocks or whoops which takes it's toll on your arms and hands, of course but the real damage is to your front end joints, bushings, ball joints and bearings. The life of these parts are seriously cut short if your car has bump steer. Another major negative with bump steer is the car tries to constantly "hunt" for a direction to go. As the tires change Toe so does the direction of your car. When ever you hit a bump, whoop or jump and you hold the wheel straight, the car will search for a direction by shooting left or right on it's own. This feeling is UN-nerving in a play car but down right dangerous in any race car. So our search continued for another rack and we found the only billet rack on the market. We bought it and loved the larger, square rack gear and custom tie rods but when we measured the width of the tie rod pivot points we found it was 1 1/2 inches too wide! This would create over 3 inches of bump steer? Wow, can't run that. With no other choices of racks to buy we were forced to make our own Race rack and here is a list of the things we put into our Race rack that you won't find in any other rack!

1. 7075 Aluminum construction. This high grade of aluminum is almost as strong as carbon steel and costs 3 times as much as the more common 6000 series aluminum.

2. Hard anodized plating. This hardened surface not only prevents wear in the harshest of environments but it also extends the life of the rack internally.

3. Dispersed grease passage lubrication. Our SINGLE grease fitting feeds 6 different spots in the rack through a network of internal passages. Proper lubrication is key to Rack life. Some of the spots the internal passages feed are the pinion gear, rack gear on all four sides and the vertical stress load spots where the rack gear sees the most potential wear. Tight internal tolerances make it so you will only need to grease our rack with two pumps of a grease gun every 1000 race miles during your routine prep.

4. Huge 1"x1" square rack gear. This massive gear is twice as thick as the stock round gear at it's weak point in the tooth base. The size of this gear prevents bending and breakage but the material used is also 125% stronger than the stock material. Another important thing about a square rack gear is that it prevents twist. The stock, round gear tends to twist in the rack body as the tie rods force it up and down. This twist wedges the rack gear into the pinion tooth. This acts like a log splitter when it forces the sharp pinion tooth into the base of the rack gear tooth and creates the "snapped" rack gear problems the stock racks are known for. With our square rack gear there is no twisting force to worry about and thus removing all pinion gear forces from the rack gear.

5. Pre heat treated rack gear. Most racks use a soft material for the rack gear so they can machine the teeth into it easily. After the machine process the gear gets heat treated to increase it's strength. Heat treating warps the gear as much as 20 thousandths of and inch. In machine tolerance terms this is a massive amount so they try to bend it back or straighten it again but you can only straighten it so much and often there are waves in the gear from end to end. This means you have to increase the clearances in the body to allow the gear to move inside the rack. We didn't like this at all so we went a different route. We started with pre-hardened material that was perfectly straight and cut our gear teeth into that. This is a very expensive process since the tooling wears out very fast and the machine time is 5 times longer but the end result is a perfectly straight gear with less than 1 thousandth of an inch of run out from end to end! This tolerance allows us to tighten up the rack body and keep any play (which contributes to wear) in the rack to ZERO tolerance!

6. Patent Pending Gear Tooth Design. In choosing a tooth design we went with the industry standard that was readily available at first. Though exhaustive testing and purposely using weaker materials to find failure points, we found that the base of the standard tooth design was the weakest point and prone to breakage. We searched for another tooth design that was stronger but found nothing so we decided to make our own! Thousands of dollars in custom tooling later, we now have a patent pending tooth design that has TWICE the base thickness on the gear as a standard system does.

7. Heat Treated Pinion Gear. Our pinion gear starts out as a solid chunk of 4140 Chromoly material. After machining our custom tooth pattern we have the pinion heat treated to a 60 Rockwell. This is actually harder than a carbon steel drill bit for superior strength and longevity!

8. Pinion Bearings. The pinion bearing is often ignored but not here. Normally the pinion bearing is pressed into the rack housing. This puts pressure on the bearing inward and can tighten up the pinion and rack slide. We created a new system where the pinion bearing is not pressed in but just barely slides into the rack body with just 1 thousandth of an inch of clearance. Then, our bearing retainer plate has a 10 thousandth step in it which pre loads the bearing vertically into the housing so it can't move and can't tighten up on the pinion gear and slow down rack function. Lastly, there are many different bearings you can run in this spot from $5 all the way up to very high tolerance $30 bearings. We only run the $30 bearings of course.

9. Faster Steering Ratio. The factory rack has a two turn, lock to lock system. This means that if your driving straight and put your hand on top of the wheel in the center and turn as much as you can to the left, the wheel will rotate one full turn before it stops. One full turn back to straight and centered and one full turn to the right. This is two full turns from lock to lock. Our Race rack is a quicker system. It rotates the wheel just past 3/4 of a turn from center. This means that our rack has just over a 1.5 turn system. We tried to run a quicker ratio but found that the power in the electric power steering system was not enough for more ratio. The steering got heavy and cumbersome we we went back to a 1.5 turn system that is quicker but still felt great.

10. High Quality Rod Ends. Our Race rack uses huge 5/8 rod ends for the tie rod pivots on the ends of the rack gear. We would never run the lower quality injected rod ends. We only run the highest quality, Teflon lined, FK JMX10-T rod ends. You will be able to run a full Best in the Desert season on these rod ends with out having to replace them.

11. "Taper Lock" Jam Nuts. Our Patent Pending rod end jam nuts, called "Taper Lock" are an industry first. If you have done any racing with rod ends and jam nuts on your radius rods or tie rods or control arms you know that the jam nuts always loosen up. Most teams tack weld them in place to prevent this. We didn't want any one welding on our rack gear so we came up with the "Taper Lock" system that uses a machinist tool taper to lock the jam nut and rod end in place. As you tighten the jam nut, the male taper of the nut and the female taper of the rack gear seat together and lock just like a tool collet in a mill or lathe. These jam nuts double up as the steering stops for the rack travel as well.  Positive lock and no loosening up are the only way to finish races!

12. 4130 Chromoly Clevises. Our tie rod clevises that allow you to attach your tie rods to our rack are huge. They are made from solid 4130 Chromoly and use high tolerance 5/8 diameter shoulder bolts to connect to the 5/8 rod ends in the rack. The WELD on clevises have two machined steps in them that are designed to insert into your tie rod tubing and weld on. The tubing diameters for the clevis are 1" .120 wall tubing and 1 1/4 .095 wall tubing. We also offer a 5/8 threaded clevis that are designed to thread into your aftermarket  tie rods or into a long travel kit such as Assault, Cognito, Long Travel Industries and any other tie rod that uses a 5/8 rod end in their tie rod. Lastly, we also offer a longer clevis for Lone Star tie rods.  Be sure to choose your clevis carefully so you get exactly what fits your tie rod system the best.

My little OCD cleaner - 2020 One Year UPDATE

One year update: I bought my 2 Eufys Aug. 2019 and use them once a week or every two weeks and have come across some quirks. The most recent quirk is Eufy just stopping in the middle of a room with the blue light still on and no error beeps. Apparently, it stops for no reason. I hit the remote start and it continues its job. Another quirk is stopping and beeping with blinking light for some reason (keep your manual handy) and once was because of the front Pivot wheel not moving because of hair being wound around it. I popped the wheel off, cleaned out the hair, reset Eufy by pushing the reset button on the bottom and it then worked fine. Another quirk was getting to the stairs and for some reason couldn't turn around and started beeping. That time I just wiped the three sensors on the bottom and reset it and it was fine after that. One day, it just continually stopped for no reason that I could find. It just stops, no beeping and still fully charged. I just kept resetting it with the bottom reset button until it finally finished the room. That happened about 10 times that day. Over the winter, I had a stray cat decide she wanted to live with me, so now I have a cat with long hair and she sheds a lot. Eufy doesn't pick up large tufts of her hair from my rugs, so I use a hair mit on the worst spots on my rugs and then Eufy does a fine job on the rugs. Another tip, try using your magnet strips to divide up larger rooms. I ended up having to do that in my living room because otherwise it took forever for Eufy to hit every area. Now I divide it in half. When one half looks complete, I pick up Eufy and put it in the other half. That works well! Also, your magnet strips can be stuck to the side of your refrigerator for storage! I find that very handy. :) You really do need to clean Eufy between charges. I have my system broken down into Living room and kitchen. Clean and charge (about 4.5 hours), then the hallway, bathroom, bedroom. Clean it and charge. Then lastly, my office/sewing room. Clean it and charge. It takes only 5- 10 minutes to clean it between uses. I'm still thrilled I have these Eufys and have decided I will never be without a Robo Vac - ever. And hopefully Eufy will still be around when I need a replacement. I bought these partly because of the Anker name. I've bought other Anker products for years and they're always made well. End of update. I bought two of these yesterday with the Deal of the day and received them today. They both took about 3 hours to fully charge and then it was off to the races. One went downstairs and the other one upstairs. I left the Eufy downstairs in the basement to do its thing on low pile carpet and tile and went down to check on it periodically. Twice I found it stuck in strange places. One was on top of a small table base and the other was lodged next to my furnace. I'll just have to block those two areas next time. The one upstairs was in my kitchen for a good 45 minutes to an hour! OCD I'd say, but my kitchen is nice and clean. :) Rugs included. These do an excellent job with edge cleaning. The one in the kitchen miraculously followed the curves in the pedestal base on the table. Pretty cool. It also traveled over all my wood floor vent covers which is pretty impressive because they're pretty thick! It also fits under most of my furniture. I sent a Roomba back years ago because it wouldn't fit under my sofa, loveseat and tables. That made it useless for me. These fit under everything except a lowboy chest and 3 smaller tables in my living room...Swiffer will take care of those. The drop sensors worked perfectly at the stairs. It turned around instead of going down. The upstairs Eufy finished my kitchen, living room, entryway and was in the bathroom when the red light came on and is now charging. Both Eufys ran for the 100 minutes as stated in the manual. I emptied the upstairs bin twice, but only because I had stopped the Eufy to get it out of the kitchen and before I sent it to charge. The bin wasn't full either time, but had plenty of dirt and fuzz in it, so I'm happy with that! I decided I'm not programming a schedule because I don't need my house cleaned daily. It's just me here and no pets anymore, so I will manually turn them on once or twice a week. I did pick EVERYTHING up off my floors for this first cleaning, but that's just not ever going to happen again. It was a PIA and I could have vacuumed my entire house in the time it took to clear the floors. I'll leave the cords zip tied, but everything else is staying put next time. All that work defeats the purpose of having these. I am THRILLED TO DEATH with these though. Vacuuming is one of my least favorite chores. These will definitely be used weekly and I look forward to watching them work instead of me! Also, these are sooooo quiet. You can't even hear where they are in the same room as you if they're cleaning underneath something. I'm so glad I bought them and at an excellent price. The exorbitantly expensive robo vacs are just not feasible for me. Maybe if they had a 20 year life span, they would be, but they don't. I'm also not into controlling everything through a stupid app or WiFi. Don't need those and don't want those. I don't need NHS knowing when I'm vacuuming my house. These were worth every cent, IMO Great little vacs!

OMG! This is one the single best purchases I've made! It's a life changer! I can wash dishes, walk the dog, do laundry, work on computer, workout, work in the yard, go shopping, etc., while vacuuming. I love the multitasking it provides. Saves so much time and my floors have never been so consistently cleaned. I wouldn't say I hate vacuuming, but I do dislike it enough that I didn't vacuum as much as I should've. I dreaded taking vacuum out of closet, getting arm and back fatigue/achiness then needing to wrap it up to store it away..... I truly thought the Eufy would be something I'd end up returning because of poor performance or because I would simply not like or use it. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I loved it from the very first use!.... Can't understand why I hadn't bought one long ago! Everybody needs one; they just don't know it!..... I named it 'WOW' because that's what I kept saying as I watched it clean my floor. It cleaned under my bed which alone made it a keeper! It's quiet, so much so, during first uses I searched for it thinking it had turned off/stopped working when actually it was working perfectly, I just couldn't hear it. I had to go into the room and stand near it to hear it. An equally important factor is it doesn't frighten my easily frighten dog which could have been a deal breaker (happy dog = happy life). She just looks at, occasionally will follow, it with curiosity or ignores it. Probably the best compliment is my husband (who often thinks a purchase is not needed/money wasted) having said my WOW was a good/useful buy. I was shocked! Think his exact words were, "Getting that was a good idea". When I asked him why he said that, he said because it's helpful and it does a good job..... Set up was super easy (I don't use app. One reason I chose this model is I wanted to use manual remote). The included accessories show Eufy's thoughtfulness which helps to put their vac over the top. (I plan to use only original replacement brushes, filters in appreciation and support for their offering a quality product at a great price) ..... I thought I wouldn't like the random movement and had strongly considered the 30G Edge (took me forever to decide b/w the two), but I find I really like the randomness. I feel it similarly patterns the way I'd normally vacuum (as well as it being normal needing to pick up cords, etc. , so to me that isn't a negative). The random pattern makes it quick. Can use remote if feel a spot was missed (which is why I wanted remote), but it does clean whole area - just set it and forget it. I now know the slow, streamline pattern of the 30G Edge would have been frustrating..... I could go on and on, e.g., drop sensors work flawlessly, spot cleaning helpful for entry rugs, empty/cleaning dust bin/filter is quick and easy, boundary strips have been helpful - only downside is strip packaged in a roll makes it not lay straight once unrolled (ends curl up); perhaps it could be in strips instead of a roll, and to ensure no damage, I chose to use painter's tape to attach strip to floor, and battery life good so far. I have always needed to turn it off before battery ran low because the floors were done. Once I let it continue to test the battery length, but it was taking so long I ended up turning it off after approximately an hour. It successfully finds dock, takes extra time if obstacles blocking its way..... To end a long review I will lastly say I feel the suction power is very adequate; leaves passage trails on carpet and evidential proof in the dust bin! Like others, I chose Eufy because of Anker's reputation, and because of the good customer service reviews. Thinking of getting a second one for upstairs... Love, love, love my 30C Max!

One year in- DONT DO IT :(

ONE YEAR IN REVIEW I have mixed thoughts because I really like it, the app is great, it cleans great. I’ve stayed on-top of all the maintenance the app has asked me to do and found replacement parts here and there as needed. I have it run everyday and it does a great job, works about as good as I could have imagined in terms of cleaning. Unfortunately exactly one year after purchasing it, 6 days after the one year warranty expired, I started having issues. For about a week I got the same error of “roller brush stuck”. I cleaned the brush, paid for replacement parts, followed every trouble shooting suggestion in the app, same error. Contacted support and did everything they told me to do in terms of trouble shooting. On Reddit I learned this is a common problem and probably from a motor issue. Worked with support for a few weeks and eventually they offered to repair it for me, even though it was a few days over the warranty. Super stoked with that. But had the weirdest interaction with the support people, felt like I was dealing with some like 3rd party questionable service, just not the interactions I expected for such a “high end” expensive product. Contacted them through the app, got an email response and they sent me a shipping label. I packed it up very well, wrapped it up, and sent it off for repair. Like two weeks later get it back on my doorstep, in the same box I sent it in, but all squished. Vacuum just set ontop of the same bubble wrap I sent it in, but like not wrapped or protected . Device was clearly beat up, everything in the box was wet and there were random parts scattered throughout the box and a panel missing from the top of the vacuum that wasn’t even in the box. Also just realized MULTIPLE parts are missing. I’m not only missing a random panel, but also a brush guard, filter and dust bin, all pieces that I sent in. I literally feel like I got scammed. So confused and disappointed. For like a $900 vacuum and only one year out, I’m disappointed to have had such a major issue so quickly and to have such an unprofessional experience with the service group. I’ve never seen something packed so poorly and was shocked, like actually dumbfounded to have found that parts are missing and like such an obvious one too, literally the panel on-top, I noticed it before the box was even open all the way. I couldn’t tell you if it worked or not because with exposed wiring and chips from the missing panel plus all the other missing parts, it literally cannot be used, it’s useless. No idea what to do now besides pray they sent me parts or just replace the thing. UPDATE: 40 something emails later I finally begged someone to send me a new device. Their original suggestion was for me to buy all the replacement parts they took and they would refund me 15% back, ridiculous in my opinion, but I literally cannot buy the most important part, the top panel that was stolen, it’s not something they sell. The “new” device they finally sent me was all scratched up with dirt, gravel, kitty litter and cat food scattered throughout the packaging. The vacuum was literally covered in the gravel and all scratched up. Clearly a returned device that was sent back dirty and no one cleaned it up before sending it to me. I thought it was all cleanable but the scratches were deep and one is right over the camera. I asked if I could exchange it and was literally told I should be grateful they sent me anything and they wouldn’t help me anymore… The customer service is so bad it’s just not worth it, get something else, save yourselves the struggle. Because of all this, I wouldn’t recommend this product. For the price, I’d expect it to last more than a year without a major repair issue needed (replacing the motor) and I’d expect better customer service and a better warranty. Stay away, it’s too expensive and too risky :(

Eufy 30C is MARVELOUS!

I purchased this Eufy 30C after 6 months of chiding from my sister, who has one. Eufy - where have you BEEN my whole life! I have uneven saltillo tile floors in this home - I was sweeping floors nearly everyday just trying to keep the floors clean in this desert environment. On a daily basis, I just could NOT keep the floors clean enough for our barefoot habits. This vacuum cleans VERY well! I turn it loose every day - it cleans under furniture and beds, it cleans my lower-nap area rugs very nicely. I use the Auto mode (random cleaning pattern). The bumper is gentle on furniture legs and walls, the sweeper automatically goes into/out of baseboard cleaning - it cleans all along the walls! Most rugs I can leave in place and let the sweeper clean those, also. The few rugs that do get caught up in the brush, I just pick up before starting the cleaning. I have moved cords so they are permanently not in the way, so I only had to deal with those issues once. The suction on this vacuum is terrific - the combination of the spinning side brushes and the roller brush pick up everything. If the sweeper has been there, the area is spotless! It moves easily from floors to rugs. I normally run the sweeper as we are having breakfast - it is very quiet, although a little "rattling" as it moves across these saltillo tiles. I have used the daily programmed mode, but personally prefer to run it when I am "ready" (some rugs picked up). The vac does not ever seem to "miss" a room using this random pattern, and eventually it seems to get everywhere in a room. It just roams around the house and does it's thing - WITHOUT my help, and better job than I did on a daily basis! I have a large, heavy-nap area rug that I prefer to run the regular sweeper on once a week rather than have my Eufy waste sweeping power there. I placed the boundary strips under the very edges of that rug to keep the Eufy off. This works most times although, occasionally, Eufy finds his way onto that carpet, anyway. I have to remind myself, but I do use an upright sweeper on all the rugs and a canister sweeper for the tile about every one to two weeks. I empty the waste container everyday when cleaning is finished (I am always amazed at how much this sweeper "finds" and picks up!). I also clean the filters everyday with a small, battery powered hand vac (opposite the direction of airflow of the Eufy). This seems to remove the fine dust from the filter. I did purchase an additional filter set. Each week, I change the filter to a clean one, and wash out the used filter under running-spray tap water and let it dry. The filters are disposable pressed paper (and a small foam filter sheet that is also washable), but I have interchanged these two filters for 6 months and they are still working just fine. Emptying the waste container and cleaning/changing the filters is extremely easy and fast. I clean the roller brush of hair and carpet fuzz as needed. I have contacted the company with questions and they were extremely responsive. I also had the brush guard replaced from the company without any issues or questions at all. Customer service was very nice. (I believe the uneven tiles just wore on a very small rubber piece and it eventually came off. Looking back, I really don't believe it affected the performance of the sweeper, or the brush guard, at all. If it happens again, I probably will not bother to replace it). I cannot think of one dislike I have of this Eufy 30c. I believe the price was extremely reasonable for the excellent job it does. It has made a big difference in the attitude I have about this house as the one, most annoying, issue I had - seemingly constantly dirty floors - is now a non-issue. If this sweeper broke down tomorrow, I would have trouble getting another here fast enough!

Great for large amounts of pet hair

Unboxed it today and got it cleaning the main part of the house after just charging it to 51%. I am still having trouble believing how good it is, especially in cleaning up clumps of pet hair all over the place. We have multiple dogs and cats who shed constantly and copiously, and I have black floors to boot (pro tip: pets and black floors are a bad combination). In addition, the beasts keep tracking in mud/dirt from the backyard and leave muddy (when raining) and dusty (when dry) paw marks all over the place. So I set out to see how the S7 would deal with the worst of it. I decided to not manually vacuum first because I wanted to stress-test it with a week's worth of pet hair clumped all over the place along with a filthy floor. I installed the Roborock app on an Android tablet (with no Google account on it, got the app off apkpure, natch), created a Roborock account, and used the app to connect the robot to my Wifi and install a firmware update which was available. I then filled the water reservoir and snapped on the mop attachment with the mop cloth on it. Then as soon as the charge level hit 51% I pressed the "Clean" button in the app and waited to see how the robot would tackle the very unclean floor. The S7 was totally up to the challenge, and right out of the dock it left a strip of unbelievably clean floor. Now I wish I had taken photographs, because this thing just went gangbusters on all the clumps of hair and dust on the floor and I'm still pleasantly shocked by how good a job it did. The area mapping algorithm is pretty efficient and effective - it divided up non-rectilinear areas into blocks of rectangles, and after systematically cleaning the rectangular area it went to clean the irregularly shaped areas (of which my house has many; I think the architect hated 90-degree angles and liked conic sections). As the robot moves about doing its business, the app shows real-time progress of the robot's movement as well as new areas of the map appearing - if you've played an RPG computer game, the map update as the LIDAR refines the map and shows new areas is very like how games like Baldur's Gate, Diablo, etc uncover new areas of the map as you explore them. It did most of the main area in 34 minutes, using up 32% of charge. Just as it negotiated the tall bumpy threshold into one of the bedrooms, it decided it needed to return to the dock for charging. Now, that threshold between the bedroom and the main area is quite large, and I was expecting that I'd need to go help the robot back into the main area so it could go dock itself, but after a few seconds I heard it trundling back in and it headed straight to the dock and plugged itself in to charge. At this point I plucked it off the dock to see exactly how much trouble it had gotten itself into with all the pet hair it had sucked up so far. I expected that the roller would be wound solid with pet hair and that I'd need a session with scissors and patience. It was not needed - the roller was completely clean, and most of the pet hair it had sucked up was in the dust bin. One compressed clump of pet hair was up against a wall, but I think it got dislodged there as the robot cleaned the floor at the wall junction. The dustbin itself could be designed a bit better because it has a couple of baffles across the top of it (under a removable filter) which make it a little difficult to empty the dustbin of pet hair - I had to pick out clumps with my fingers and pitch them in a dustbin. No biggie, though. I then checked the state of the mop cloth to see whether the cleaned-up pet hair was felted to the cloth, and again I was impressed by how little pet hair was actually on the mop cloth; I expected lots but found almost none, which was further proof that the robot had vacuumed up whatever it encountered. The water reservoir was about half empty. Sound-wise, the robot is not that noisy when cleaning - to me it seems to be less noisy than a regular non-robotic vacuum cleaner. The robot is currently resting (charging) and I've refilled the water reservoir. Can't wait to see how the algorithm handles cleaning when it has to resume cleaning where it left off. One thing I have to mention: since Roborock is a Chinese company I had some privacy concerns regarding house maps etc (remember the Roomba scandal from a few years ago?) which remain to be assuaged, but the company's product page for the S7 MaxV Ultra (the S7's bigger better brother) states that they have privacy certifications from a well-known German arbiter whose name escapes me at the moment, so perhaps this is not going to be a problem after all. All in all, I am VERY impressed by this thing and will definitely be buying the AutoDock for it. Next year, I'll buy its bigger brother the S7 MaxV Ultra (with double the suction power, and a snazzy self-cleaning AutoDock) when I have some money to drop on it.
