Six Questions Your 1-800 Water Damage Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this franchise unit financial model using our own research into the property restoration industry. Key assumptions, including water mitigation revenue and mold remediation costs, are pre-populated with researched data specific to this restoration franchise unit and are fully editable. Year one revenue is projected at $590,000 with an EBITDA of $109,000, providing a credible baseline for your franchise unit profitability analysis.

How does the profitability trajectory look?

The unit becomes profitable in its first year, generating $109,000 in EBITDA after accounting for 10% royalties and 2% marketing fees. By year five, EBITDA is projected to reach $454,000 as high-margin commercial contracts and mold remediation services scale alongside your technician headcount.

Profitability Drivers

  • Maximize high-margin mold remediation jobs
  • Optimize technician routing to reduce fuel
  • Secure recurring commercial mitigation contracts

How much capital is required?

Launching this unit requires a total initial investment of $411,000, which covers the $59,000 franchise fee and significant equipment outlays. This capital expenditure planning includes $120,000 for restoration trucks and $105,000 for water extractors and dehumidifiers to handle emergency responses.

Major Capital Uses

  • Restoration Trucks: $120,000
  • Dehumidifiers and Extractors: $105,000
  • Initial Franchise Fee: $59,000
  • Facility Improvements: $40,000
[dynamic_pic9]

What is the return on investment?

Investors can expect an internal rate of return (IRR) of 2.79% and a return on equity (ROE) of 0.83 over the initial five-year period. The payback period is 5 years, which is typical for equipment-heavy restoration businesses where the asset base is significant but the cash flow scales strongly after year three.

Investment Metrics

  • Internal Rate of Return: 2.79%
  • Payback Period: 5 Years
  • Year 5 EBITDA Margin: 35.6%
[dynamic_pic10]

Where is the break-even point?

The unit reaches its monthly break-even point in April 2026, just 4 months after launch. This fast break-even is defintely driven by the high average ticket of water mitigation jobs, though you must maintain a lean staff of 3 technicians initially to cover the $3,000 monthly rent and $1,800 in insurance premiums.

Break-Even Levers

  • Maintain 60-minute emergency response speed
  • Control restoration supply waste
  • Aggressive local insurance adjuster networking
[dynamic_pic11]

What is the cash runway?

The lowest cash point occurs in March 2026 with a minimum cash balance of $822,000, assuming you start with sufficient working capital. You need at least 6 months of runway to handle the lag between completing emergency jobs and receiving insurance claim payouts, which can often stretch your cash flow thin.

Cash Flow Protection

  • Phased equipment purchasing for mold jobs
  • Incentivize faster insurance claim documentation
  • Use subcontractor fees for overflow work
[dynamic_pic12]

How do scenarios change outcomes?

In a high-growth scenario, securing more commercial contracts can push year-5 revenue well above the $1.27 million base case, significantly shortening the payback period. Conversely, a low scenario with fewer emergency calls would increase the peak cash need and delay the break-even point beyond the initial 4-month estimate.

Optimizing for High Case

  • Implement hyper-local digital marketing
  • Train technicians on upselling mold checks
  • Build exclusive property management partnerships
[dynamic_pic13]

Actionable Next Steps

To move forward, you must validate these projections against your specific territory's insurance landscape and local competition. Adjust the technician headcount and equipment financing terms in the model to see how they impact your year-one cash flow and long-term valuation. Honestly, the math only works if you stay on top of your local marketing and response times.

Effective Tool
Color: Yellow, Size: 5.5" Lift
Go try to use your standard car jack to lift your two axle travel trailer and see why this simple ramp just works. I have used this ramp for changing trailer tires, packing bearings, and changing brakes. It's effective in lifting one tire even though the suspension is articulating. It is also much more stable than a hydraulic jack under an axle. I highly recommend this ramp for travel trailer use.

*Perfect* small camper hose for water filling
Size: 50-Foot, Style: Expandable Fabric
Well designed and very functional! Even if you have a small camper like a teardrop, I encourage you to get a longer length hose (minimally 50 ft). It really is drinking water quality hosing. I hate the weird plastic-y taste that you get from a standard yard hose. When I fill up the tank on my camper, I want water that tastes good, not like plastic--and this hose delivers. ZERO plastic flavoring! For pulling water from my house spigot, we can directly fill our water tank with zero issues. When we fill from well water or other sources on the road, we also add a water filter to the mix. I love that this comes with a mesh fabric holding bag to keep the hose stored safely and cleanly, while still allowing it to dry completely. The bag is large enough to actually accommodate the hose easily (although warning, it can be challenging to roll up this much hose without having the center fall out... pay attention when doing it, or better, do it on a flat surface before transferring it to the bag). I originally bought a 25 foot hose. That was a mistake. The 50 foot does not take up much more space in storage, but it is so much easier to work with when running from a spigot to your rig. I now have both a 25 ft and the 50 ft--and we bring both with us when on the road. There have been several times when we have needed all of the length of those two hoses connected. Sometimes you need to fill up at a gas station or rest area where it can be hard to either get your rig close enough, or when there are other vehicles blocking access. Having the extra length gives you options. The hose does not kink in use. At least, we have never had a problem with that happening. Mind you, we only roll it out straight to our camper, so it's not like I'm dragging it around the yard to water plants. Additionally, this is a remarkably lightweight hose, making it easy to move around. While not the cheapest, this is compact, easy to store, and it does its job perfectly, making it a very good value for the money.

Best RV water hose I've owned - flexible and durable
Size: 25-Foot, Style: Expandable Fabric
This Camco EvoFlex2 25-ft drinking water hose is outstanding and a huge upgrade from standard RV hoses. The flexibility is incredible—it stays supple even in cold weather and coils up easily without kinking or fighting you. No more wrestling with stiff hoses during setup and takedown. The drinking water safe certification gives me peace of mind that I'm not contaminating my fresh water system. No plastic taste or smell in the water like you get with cheaper hoses. The 25-foot length is perfect for most campsite hookups without excess hose laying around. The fittings are quality brass that don't leak and thread smoothly onto connections. They feel substantial and durable—no cheap plastic components that'll crack or strip. The hose itself is tough and resists abrasion from being dragged across gravel and pavement. After multiple camping trips, it still looks and performs like new. Easy to clean and maintain between uses. The flexibility means it stores compactly without taking up much space in the RV storage compartment. If you're tired of dealing with stiff, kinky RV water hoses, upgrade to this EvoFlex2. It's worth every penny for the convenience and quality. Highly recommend!

Great water hose. Easy and small to carry in motorhome bay. Don’t have the issue with trying to coil the hose up.
