Prior to the publication of On the Road, Kerouac had written several novels and poems. With the almost overnight success of On the Road, publishers clamored for his other books and a Kerouac industry was born. Within only a few years of being heralded as the voice of a new generation, however, Kerouac was aging, severely alcoholic, and suffering from a death of the spirit. Arguably his finest post-On the Road novel, Big Sur captures Kerouac (here named Jack Duluoz) trying to escape the clamor of beatnik adulation by retreating to Lawrence Ferlinghetti's peaceful cabin in Big Sur. What begins as a pastoral regeneration descends into a personal hell when Kerouac suffers an alcoholic breakdown. Simple, fragrance-free base lotion that plays well under sunscreen
Size: 18 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I bought this as a moisturizing base before beach days, on my dermatologist s-style routine: at home I apply this lotion first, let it sink in, then tanning cream, and then layer broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF) on top. The goal was an even, soft, brown tan without that tight, dry feeling after sun and salt. In this role, it worked well for me. I didn’t finish the bottle over the season, and now I use it after the shower as my everyday body lotion.
Why I chose it (and what actually “works” here):
It’s fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, so it’s basic and gentle.
The key active is colloidal oatmeal, a classic skin protectant that helps soothe and support the moisture barrier.
Value for money was the clincher: a big bottle, simple formula, no extras I don’t need.
Real-life notes from first use:
It’s not ultra-rich (don’t expect a heavy occlusive butter), but as a daily hydrator or under-SPF base, it’s reliable and comfortable .The texture is fast-absorbing and non-greasy on my slightly dry skin.
So, a straightforward, affordable oatmeal lotion that kept my skin calm under sunscreen in summer and now does the job after showers. No complaints—just a workhorse moisturizer that earns its keep.
