This publication is a compilation of the first nine years of monthly submissions to newsletters for local and state beekeepers’ associations, supplemented by occasional contributions to Bee Culture, the American Bee Journal, and Beekeeping, the journal of the Devon Beekeepers’ Association in England.

Review by David Papke – At first glance, Our Green Cathedral may appear to be simply a compilation of articles written by Jeremy Barnes for various beekeeping journals and newsletters. But, look again. This is not yet another manual on how to keep bees or even what’s the problem with bees these days – not directly. Thankfully. Rather, these are concise personal essays (95 in all) addressing the current state of our natural world and humanity’s place in it as seen through the eyes of a practiced beekeeper. Indeed, though his passion for apiculture is often the impetus for his reflections, an innate curiosity compels him to look beyond the mere surface of things to discover the histories, the symbioses, the connections underlying the big picture. He challenges our assumptions and conventional thinking, not with the power of his reasoning or the weight of his arguments; he is more subtle than that. His conversational style, his humor and honesty, his masterly employment of quotation and anecdote convincingly win the day. For Barnes, the bee yard is a place of contemplation and insight, a refuge from the anxiety and divisiveness of the modern world, and like a green cathedral, a home for mystery and beauty. In the end, we are left with a clear impression of a man who cares deeply for the future of our planet and human-kind’s existence in it. This thought-provoking volume of essays belongs to that long history of literature which reflects on the hive and the honey bee as models and metaphors for society and the ways of the world.

Have to manually turn off-no timer
Just okay. It works, but my other units are on a timer and turn off themselves. This doesn’t shut off unless I manually turn it off so the batteries don’t last.

It looks like a Totoro
Color: Hare - Large
Great toy ! Pibble loves it! an it looks just like a Totoro which is huge plus at our house. These are very durable and once de gloved the body will last a very long time if your dog isn’t a big chewer.

Very fun toy at a great price
Color: Monsieur Acorn - Large
My dog (an American Staffordshire Terrier) lovessss to chew and destroy things! We have literally gotten three of these because she loves them so much, and they last, too!! You get the first toy, which my dog rips open. I’m not sure exactly how long it takes for her to destroy it, maybe a few days to a week. Then another little toy (with a sad face lol) is revealed. She highly enjoys this one, as well! Finally, she rips the fabric off that and then a blue, spiky ball is revealed. She lovesss to chew on it and I think the bumps are a nice texture for her mouth. She is quite a strong chewer and the ball lasts a long time!! No toy lasts forever and I have found under dog toys are quite expensive and that’s no guarantee of how long it will actually last. But I am perfectly fine with spending ~$11 every once in a while for these toys because I know she loves them, and they are not immediately destroyed.

Would happily purchase again.
Color: Hedgehog
My powerchewer of a dog destroys plushies in 10 minutes and most other 'tough chew' toys don't last more than a day or two - at most. But he loves his hedgehog and hasn't managed to destroy it! Sure, it has a plethora of teeth marks, but it's in one piece and he hasn't managed to bite off any chunks (I was worried about the hedgies nose 😂). It stands up to his teeth and allows him to satisfy his need to gnaw & chew, safely.
