The Voigtländer Bessa R2 is a 35mm rangefinder camera designed around the Leica M-mount, providing compatibility with a wide range of M-mount lenses. Its body combines a magnesium-alloy top and bottom plate with a lightweight chassis, resulting in a durable yet portable construction. The camera features a 0.7× viewfinder with projected framelines for 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 90mm focal lengths, coupled to a precise mechanical rangefinder system for accurate manual focusing. Exposure is controlled through a vertically travelling metal focal-plane shutter offering speeds from 1s to 1/2000s, along with Bulb mode and aperture-priority automatic exposure. Metering is performed through a TTL center-weighted system, displayed directly in the finder for efficient operation. The Bessa R2 combines traditional rangefinder handling with modern exposure automation, making it a versatile platform for both black-and-white and color 35mm photography.
