This book draws together previous research into Sir Robert HartÕs musical activities with new research about his musical interests. A lot of the changes that took place in the 19th Century in the attitude towards music can be seen in his life. He was seemingly a self-taught violinist but he practised every day, studied etudes, bought the latest Dodd bows and was not content to be a mediocre performer.
ItÕs a myth to think that HartÕs Brass Band was the first Chinese Brass Band in China because the Jesuits were much more important in the initial development of Chinese Brass Bands. What makes him special was his influence with his work colleagues and his interest in Chinese music. George Carter Stent acknowledged this when he wrote: Ò(he) is ever ready to assist by his countenance and support any work tending to increase an interest in, and knowledge of, China and the Chinese.Ó
His string Orchestra, although historically it has received much less attention, is in fact of critical importance. The Chinese Military Bands were ensured of growth because of the endless conflicts that occurred, but the Chinese western symphony orchestraÕs development can be shown to be a legacy of HartÕs String Band. It may just have been an extraordinary felicitous coincidence that HartÕs protŽgŽe Dora van Mollendorff should be the teacher of Xiao Youmei, who then returned to Beijing and recruited many of HartÕs Band Boys for the first Chinese Symphony Orchestra.

Very easy to use to open the wine
Color: 7-in-1 Black, Size: Rechargeable Set
Instructions were not clear enough, instructions about the bottle stoppers. The opener aprons well though. That was very easy once charged.

Vendor support is excellent
Color: 7-in-1 Black, Size: Rechargeable Set
UPDATE 2: The vendor proactively reached out to me and sent me a replacement. The replacement works well so I’ve given them 5 Stars. UPDATE: It really doesn’t ever go in straight so every cork is at risk for breaking off. I lowered rating to two. It ultimately works about 85% of the time. Meh. Works most of the time, but has issues. It wrecks corks much more often than the Brookstone one we had before. It seems to twist in sideways so that it runs along the glass of the bottle neck instead of straight down. This causes it to destroy the corks fairly frequently… and on occasion it destroys it so much that you can’t get the cork out at all. Pros: Quiet Has the bottle sealers and suction. Recharges on base. Cons: Damages corks Sometimes destroys corks to point of not being able to extract them. Goes in crooked.

This is really neat and works well. Easy to charge, but read the directions first, and great value. If you like wine, this is a great product.

Great value and works well
Color: 7-in-1 Black, Size: Rechargeable Set
I wasn’t sure this would compare to the name brand one I’ve had for years but it finally died and I needed a replacement. The Circle Joy amazed me with how easily it removes corks, ejects the cork and vacuum seals the bottle when you’re done. Some reviews mentioned they were concerned with durability but it’s still working great and no signs of wear after two months of regular use.
