The body is worked in one piece in the round to the underarms, then divide for back and front. Shoulders are joined using 3-needle bind off. Sleeves are picked up and worked down.

The Yarn

Berroco Vintage Chunky is a bulky weight yarn that's great for just about everything: babies, kids, men, blankets, afghans, etc. It is machine washable, soft, easy to work with and come in a spectrum of great colours, both solid and heathered. It's a blend of wool and high-end synthetic fibres, but it isn't shiny (or squeaky), and doesn't feel acrylicy. 40% Wool, 52% Acrylic, 8% Nylon, 100g/125m (136yds). Made in Peru, machine wash inside out in cold water on gentle cycle, lay flat to dry.

Gauge:

14 sts and 21 rows = 4" in St st on larger needles
16 sts and 32 rows = 4" in Mistake Rib on larger needles

Skills: reading a pattern, joining in the round, knitting in the round on double-pointed needles, short rows (wrap & turn), bind-off (3-needle), picking up and knitting stitches, weaving in ends.
