Everybody Out of the PondAt the Water's Edge will change the way you think about your place in the world. The awesome journey of life's transformation from the first microbes 4 billion years ago to Homo sapiens today is an epic that we are only now beginning to grasp. Magnificent and bizarre, it is the story of how we got here, what we left behind, and what we brought with us.
We all know about evolution, but it still seems absurd that our ancestors were fish. Darwin's idea of natural selection was the key to solving generation-to-generation evolution -- microevolution -- but it could only point us toward a complete explanation, still to come, of the engines of macroevolution, the transformation of body shapes across millions of years. Now, drawing on the latest fossil discoveries and breakthrough scientific analysis, Carl Zimmer reveals how macroevolution works. Escorting us along the trail of discovery up to the current dramatic research in paleontology, ecology, genetics, and embryology, Zimmer shows how scientists today are unveiling the secrets of life that biologists struggled with two centuries ago.
In this book, you will find a dazzling, brash literary talent and a rigorous scientific sensibility gracefully brought together. Carl Zimmer provides a comprehensive, lucid, and authoritative answer to the mystery of how nature actually made itself.

The kid and I both love this book
Format: Hardcover
I am so enamored with the illustrator of this book that I've taken to buying almost everything he does. The illustrations here are so cute and playful! My daughter wants to read this almost every single day. She loves to point out the bugs on the different page and we make up stories about them. She can now recognize so many bugs we when go outside and is really excited to see them in real life! She laughs at the antics of the ladybug on each page and loves that there are different animals hidden in with the bugs. Really can't say enough good things about this book. My only caution is that there aren't really a lot of words, so if you aren't comfortable ad-libbing or making up stories you may find it a bit boring. But if you make it interactive it's really fun!

Greatest book on the planet
Format: Board book
This book was purchased for me as a baby shower gift. My daughter is obsessed with this book. We have read it so much that our first copy has seen some damage (the book is sturdy, the damage is our fault). I had to get another copy just to keep forever. I will also be purchasing the hard cover book to keep in my collection to have forever. The illustration is brilliant, we love Oscar, the writing itself is so fun. I love that it encourages exploration, play, as well as education. 10/10 - this is our favorite childrens book ever. We read it maybe 30 times a day.

Cute Rhymes and wonderful info
Format: Board book, Format: Board book
This book is super cute and makes bugs interesting with it's colorful pages and different big varieties. The book rhymes throughout the pages and it's so cute and almost reminds me of song that could have sung by the "Animaniacs" (my age is showing lol). In one of the pics I show the cover damaged but that's from my son chewing on the book. Just because it's a board book doesn't meant it's exempt from damage, just makes it last a little longer than a paperback.
I also REALLY like that there is a page that lists the bugs seen along with their names which is helpful in teaching your little one! My son enjoyed this beautiful book. :)
