Why has compassion and empathy veered so far off course to the point where society as a whole now no longer values kindness as an admirable attribute. In fact, does it not seem as though kindheartedness has been replaced with widespread narcissism and self-absorption. As I see it, the question is not so much why has the world become less kind but rather what can I do about it? I refuse to believe that the vast majority of people no longer care about one another.
My own story illustrates how it only takes one person to change a life, in my case tisÕ my angel on earth daughter Sydni. As a cancer father, I have witnessed incessant instability on a far-reaching human scale É emotionally, physically and financially thanks to childhood cancer. When GodÕs Greater Plan exposes you to real hardships, you quickly notice the good versus the bad in people, you bear witness to concern versus indifference, you become the recipient of either benevolent outreach or uncaring coldness. As a cancer father, I recognize the value in what it means to be kind, empathetic and compassionate. True compassion requires lending a helping hand to those with whom we do not relate. Truth be told sincere kind-heartedness defines it.
As such, in homage to my three treasured children, starting on the day after my birthday (November 17th) and finishing on my actual birthday (November 16th) the following year, I shall embark upon a 365 Consecutive Days of Kindness journey, and share with you my daily kindliness experiences along the way.
It is time to reclaim the value of kind-heartedness. Come along with me on this journey if you dare rediscover GodÕs path to hopefulness.
