Commemorated June 1.

Saint Justin was born on the Feast of the Annunciation 1894, in Vranje, South Serbia, to a family whose seven previous generations had been headed by priests (Popovich means "family or son of a priest" in Serbian). He began reading the scriptures at a young age, and as an adult carried a New Testament with him, reading three chapters every day. He studied at the Seminary of St Sava in Belgrade while St Nikolai Velimirovich (March 18) was on the faculty. In 1914, Blagoje (as he was called before his tonsure) completed the nine-year seminary program. He desired to become a monk, but postponed entry into the monastic ranks due to the outbreak of war and the poor health of his parents. He spent the war caring for his parents and serving as a student nurse.

In 1915 he was tonsured a monk under the name Justin, after St Justin the Philosopher. Shortly thereafter he traveled to Petrograd to study at the seminary; there he acquired a deep, first-hand knowledge of the Russian ascetical tradition and a lifelong love of Russian spirituality, especially that of the common people.

He then attended Oxford University from 1916 to 1919, writing a doctoral dissertation which was rejected. After a brief return to Belgrade, he entered the Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Athens. As in Russia, he used his time there not merely to study but to drink in the Orthodox spirituality of the Greek people.

He was ordained to the diaconate while in Greece, then to the priesthood after returning to Belgrade in 1922. He wept 'as a newborn babe' throughout his ordination service. One of his first labors as a priest was to translate the Divine Liturgy into modern Serbian. During this period he came to know Metropolitan Anthony Khrapovitsky (later first hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad) and St John Maximovich, both of whom were living in Serbia as exiles from the Russian Revolution.

Father Justin's preaching, writing and spiritual counsel became known throughout his country. In 1931 he was sent to Czechoslovakia to help in reorganizing the Church there (then under the jurisdiction of the Serbian Church), which was greatly tried and weakened by Uniatism. Realizing the people's crying need a clear exposition of the Faith in their own language, he began in 1932 his three-volume Dogmas of the Orthodox Church. The first volume was so well-received that Fr Justin was made Professor of Dogmatics at the Seminary of St Sava, where he remained, completing the Dogmas and several other books, until the end of World War II. The new atheistic Communist regime then banned him from the university system, and Fr Justin lived from that time on in various Serbian monasteries.

In 1948 he entered Chelije Monastery, where he remained until his repose in 1979. He became Archimandrite and spiritual head of the Monastery. It was during this period that he emerged as a great light of Orthodoxy: pious believers from all parts of Yugoslavia, from Greece, and from all over the world traveled to Chelije to hear the holy Justin's preaching and seek his counsel.

Saint Justin reposed in peace in 1979 at the age of 85, on the Feast of the Annunciation — the date of his birth (March 25). Since his repose, many miracles have been witnessed at his grave: healings, flashes of unearthly light from his tomb, and conversions of unbelievers by his prayers. His many writings are increasingly recognized as a fount of pure Orthodox teaching in the midst of our dark time.

Cool, lightweight, and surprisingly comfortable!
I absolutely love this cooling comforter! The first thing I noticed is how lightweight it is. It comes in at just over 3 pounds, so it’s not thick or bulky at all, which I really appreciate. It feels easy to move around and doesn’t weigh you down while you’re sleeping. I chose the queen size in dark gray. It’s reversible, which is such a nice bonus. One side has a simple white stripe pattern that gives it a little personality, and the other side is a solid gray. The solid gray side is the cooling side, and oh my goodness, it feels so silky and smooth to the touch. That cool-to-the-touch feeling is really noticeable when you first get under it. I didn’t have any issues with it sliding off the bed, but I’ll mention that I don’t toss and turn a lot at night, so that may be part of it. If you’re someone who moves around more, your experience might be a little different. As far as washing goes, I did notice a small inconsistency. The product description recommends hanging it to dry, but the tag on the comforter says it can be machine washed and dried. I’m going to go ahead and follow the tag instructions and tumble dry it. I’ll definitely come back and update if I notice any issues after machine drying it. I live in the South and right now our weather is actually pretty mild so it’s a little hard to say just how much of the cooling effect is from the blanket versus the temperature in the house. That said, I do feel like it’s helping. I haven’t been waking up hot and the fabric itself definitely feels cool and breathable so I’m excited to see how it performs when the real heat kicks in. I’m also really pleased with the overall quality. The stitching looks clean, there are no loose threads and everything feels well made and thoughtfully put together. It gives me confidence that it will hold up nicely over time. This doesn’t affect my rating, but I do wish there were more color or pattern options to choose from. It would be fun to have a few more styles, especially since it’s such a nice-looking comforter. 5 stars for its lightweight feel, silky cooling fabric, and solid, well-made construction.

This is a great blanket for those who prefer to be cool all night.
This is a great blanket for those who prefer to be slightly cooler all night. I have been using this for almost two months now. It's been difficult to figure out how to explain it's use. Ultimately I have figured out that it acts like a blanket, insulating and keeping you warm, however, wherever the blanket is actually resting on your skin stays cool. It took me a while to figure it out. How does an insulating blanket cool you? I'm not sure how the material actually works, but that is what it does, at least for slightly cool interior weather with a bit of humidity. I imagine in the desert it may work differently. I would say nights when a sheet may be too cold or thin, and a blanket way too hot, this is the in between. The material itself is soft and almost silky. It is made well, has a pleasant appearance on the bed, and doesn't wrinkle. So getting up in the morning it is easy to toss and make the bed. It breathes unlike a duvet cover and feather blanket, so no need to air it out so much. I have come to really love it and recommend it for anyone looking for an in between, between a sheet and comforter. I have never woken up sweating or pulling it off at night. My only experience was at first thinking I was cold but learning that I was not, only where my skin was in contact! For the quality and price, it is definitely worth giving it a try!

Attractive Comforter That Will Keep Hot Sleepers Cool
The Bedsmile striped cooling comforter ice blanket for hot sleepers is amazing. It's cool and comfortable thanks to its unique structure. If you're a hot sleeper, then this comforter is definitely the one for you. This comforter gives you the comfort of a blanket, but manages to also keep you cool throughout the night. It's soft and it feels cold to the touch on one side and smooth and comforting on the other. This is because one side is made from nylon which feels cool because it's a synthetic, thermally conductive material that quickly draw heat away from your skin. My daughter is the lucky recipient of this comforter, and she loves it. It matches perfectly with the gray sheets and pillowcases she already has. I have to admit I had my doubts when I first pulled it out of the package and saw it wasn't thick like a traditional comforter, but so far it has exceeded my expectations. The design is very attractive, gray with white stripes on one side, and a solid gray on the other. It is the solid gray side that is made of nylon for that cooling effect. It’s lightweight without feeling flimsy, and it is well-stitched. This is a quality comforter made with top of the line material. It's Queen size and its measurements are true. The ad says it is "reversible" but the solid gray side is nylon and that is where you get the cooling benefits...plus, it looks so much better with the gray and white strips on top. I'm really happy with this bedspread, it looks great, it is made with quality materials, it is soft and silky and it does keep you cool and comfortable at night. If you're looking for a good nights sleep, I highly recommend this comforter.

Quality design, materials, and stitching...with one annoying trait
There is a lot to love about this comforter. First, as advertised, it works. I don't know how, but on a warm day in the house it feels great to cover yourself in it and to feel its "coolness." The design is cool as well, but in a stylistic way. It's elegant and tasteful, and the colors went well with our mocha-colored walls. And the fabric color is neutral enough that it will go with a large range of colors. The fabric has a high thread count, so it looks, feels, and is luxurious. Stitching is perfect. Overall, the design and materials are superior...with one--for me, anyway--annoying characteristic: we couldn't keep the comforter on the bed. The backing material is so very smooth and shiny that the moment it was disturbed even in a slight way, this lovely blanket went instantly to the floor night after night, sliding down on that smoothness and shininess. As a result we keep it kind of rolled/folded up in the middle of the bed during the day (which is a shame because the design is so nice), and we find ourselves frustrated at night when it invariably slides off the bed! All told, this is an elegant, quality made comforter. I almost knocked a star off for its seeming inability to stay on the bed. But it looks so nice, is so well made, and actually works, that it deserves a 5-star rating. Just be ready to grab it quickly when it starts its quick slide to the floor in the middle of the night. A good value. Recommended.

Nice for cooling but not so cool with staying on the bed
Color: Black Pinstripe, Size: King(108"x90")
Definitely cooled while sleeping however due to the silky fabric it did not stay on the bed and often ended up on the floor by morning.
