HORSE SOLARIUM BENEFITS – HOW CAN AN EQUINE SOLARIUM HELP YOUR HORSE OR PONY

When horse property owners plan their perfect stables or barn there are a few must-haves. An Instagram-worthy tack shed, a wash bay with both hot and cold water, a row of lush stables with intricate detailing, and an equine solarium!

A horse solarium not only helps you warm your horses up but helps to dry them off quickly and efficiently on cold nights when you want nothing more than to throw your horse back in the paddock after a ride and head home to a warm bed.

For so often they have been too expensive for the average equestrian to add to their stable block but with the introduction of the Foalamp, there is now an affordable, cost effective option to make your dream stable a reality! So let’s take a look at how the Foalamp Solarium can benefit your horse.

WHAT DOES AN EQUINE SOLARIUM DO?

At its core, an equine solarium is a therapy aid that can help your horse perform at its best. Designed with infrared lights which are designed to focus straight down the center of the horse’s back whilst submersing the animal in warm therapeutic light.

We are already very familiar with the benefits of infrared therapy here at Juvawave as it’s used in our Class 4 Lasers including relieving pain, and inflammation, accelerating recovery from colds, regenerating damaged tendons/ligaments and relaxing muscles.

https://juvawave.com/products/new-juvavet-class-iv-therapeutic-laser-for-dogs-cats-horses?_pos=2&_psq=horse+laser&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Infrared light therapy is a non-invasive targeted light therapy, stimulating the cells within the body to heal, recover and function effectively.  The equine solarium’s infrared heat and light acts as an overall wellness aid helping to improve blood circulation, cellular metabolism, and general health and well-being.

WARMING UP AND COOLING DOWN

Infrared also helps to increase the levels of Vitamin D and can be used for warming and softening your horse’s muscles before & after riding.

Muscle soreness generally occurs when horses are either not warmed up or cooled down properly during exercise, or when they have been working heavier than usual. This is due to the build-up of lactic acid or swelling of the muscle compartment that results from an influx of white blood cells, prostaglandins (which are anti-inflammatory), and other nutrients and fluids that flow to the muscles to repair the “damage” after a tough riding.

Just a 10-15 minute session both before and after exercise can help to cut down on muscle strain and reduce the build-up of lactic acid! This prevents stiffness in the back and legs and means that your horse will be partially warmed up before you even hop on reducing the overall warm-up time for scheduled exercise periods.

By warming up and cooling down your horse’s muscles you can help promote blood flow to the areas that need it most which will help with your horse’s recovery. You will find that your horse’s relaxation and performance level will increase over time with a solarium unit and you may find that it also helps to improve muscles and topline which will assist in preventing injuries.

DRYING OFF

Perhaps the most practical application of an equine solarium is the benefit of drying your horse after a workout or a bath quickly and efficiently. In winter months your horse solarium will be the hardest worker in your stable as you can hose your horse down and leave them under the solarium for 10 – 15 min for drying off before putting rugs on.

Forget standing around for an hour waiting for your horse to dry with a cooler rug on, the solarium will dry your horse in just 15 mins.

The FoalLamp even has inbuilt fans which direct the flow of air and while in the wintertime this feature is useful to speed up the drying process, it’s even better in summer! Switch on the fans without the heat lamps to help air circulation in your barn or stable on hot days when the flies are just too sticky!

IMPROVING YOUR HORSE’S COAT

For show horse owners equine solarium’s are used to assist with show prep. The lights and heat accelerates the natural molting process; therefore producing a smoother, glossier coat.

For any horses with skin issues, it also helps to promote healthier-looking skin. Over time, the lamps will help maintain the natural oils found in your horse’s skin and will in turn help to make your horse’s coat shinier and healthier.

MORE ABOUT THE FOALLAMP SOLARIUM

The Solarium comes fitted with 6 powerful dual-action fans for SuperFast Drying or Cooling, 2 Dimmers for full control of the heat and brightness on the inner and outer banks of lights, plus a 50-minute timer for easy & safe use.

Weighing 68lbs this splashproof and rustproof design is perfect for your barn and even has the option to add RED lights which convert the Solarium into a foaling light.

Or for larger properties and agistment centers you can take on the option which features a token-operated timer meaning that you can charge per use for your solarium.

Description

The Equine Solarium Light Therapy System is a new and unique way to speed healing, reduce pain, and increase performance for your horse.

The science behind the Solarium  involves a process also known as low-level light therapy (LLLT) or red light therapy. Testing demonstrates  that exposure to specific red and infrared light wavelengths stimulates the cells essential for healing (fibroblasts and endothelial cells). The increased blood flow along with anti-inflammatory action results in tissue healing and pain reduction.  Research suggests that exposure to these wavelengths, delivered by LED light, can reduce inflammation.

This proves invaluable in the management of musculoskeletal injuries such as tendonitis, ligament strains, and muscle soreness.

By reducing inflammation and promoting blood circulation, LED therapy aids in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to damaged tissues, while expediting the removal of metabolic waste products.

  • Increases white blood cells and vitamin D production, boosting the immune system.
  • Reduces inflammation from training.
  • Aids in eliminating lactic acid.
  • Optimizes natural shedding for a smoother coat.

Our Equine Solarium Light Therapy System uses eight arrays of red, infrared, blue, and UV LEDs to create the proper light spectrum. The LEDs are housed in eight focused arrays mounted on the curved frame. The Solarium is hung from the ceiling so the Solarium is positioned above the horse.

Equine therapists report these light therapy benefits:

  • Speeds up healing (up to 60% faster)
  • Minimizes scar tissue
  • Reduced bruising
  • Faster recovery of muscles
  • Positive effect on bursitis

Unmatched Performance and Quality

Driver & Power:

  • Our light therapy solarium is 1200w, powered with 2 x 650w Sosen drivers, while the standard competition only offers 700w

Number of Light Bars:

  • The Solarium from Juvawave offers 8 overhead red LED light bars to cover a large surface area densely, while the competition offers only 6 light bars providing a much weaker pulse of energy

Lamp Size / Weight:

  • We offer durable, thick bars made from aluminum. The competition offers flimsy, thin bars that lack durability.
  • Juvawave’s LED light system provides a cover for each bar, offering protection for the internal components to last longer. The competition offers no cover for these components.

LED Quantity:

  • Our LED strips are packed with 3 columns of lights in each bar, while the competition only offers 2 columns.
  • Juvawave’s LED light system provides a stronger beam of energy, resulting in a better effect for your horse

Top 8 Horse Solarium Benefits

Let’s dig deeper into the benefits of a horse solarium so you know why your horse really needs one. While most consider solariums a luxury, we believe they are a necessity that enhances your horses, growth, well-being, and performance. So, let’s dig into our top eight horse solarium benefits.

1. Optimizes Your Horse’s Metabolism Rate

As mentioned above, one of the most significant benefits of a horse solarium is that it helps optimize your horse’s metabolism rate. This ensures that your horse is in tip-top condition and performs at his best.

2. Enhances Muscle Elasticity

Horse solariums encourage cell regeneration. As a result, this helps improve the elasticity of your horse’s muscles. Because of this, your horse becomes more supple.

3. Improves Your Horse’s Recovery Rates

Because solariums encourage faster tissue regeneration, another added advantage they bring to the table is that they help your horse heal faster from injuries. From soft tissue injuries to fractures, recovery depends on the rate at which new cells are regenerated, and a horse solarium enhances cell recovery rate.

4. Helps Reduce the Likelihood of Injuries

Horses that undergo solarium therapy are less prone to injuries. This is simply because of the increased muscle elasticity that leads to improved suppleness. Solariums also promote muscle development, leading to your horse being stronger and better balanced. This also helps in the reduction of injuries.

5. Promotes a Healthier Coat

Horse solariums speed up the natural shedding process that rejuvenates your horse’s coat. As a result, your horse’s skin and coat are healthier and shinier.

6. Boosts Your Horse’s Immune System

One of the most significant benefits of a horse solarium is that it helps boost your horse’s immune system. This is because solarium therapy stimulates the production of white blood cells, which are a crucial component of your horse’s immune system. More white blood cells mean your horse can fight off sickness and disease more efficiently.

7. Reduces Muscle Pain

Improper warm-up (or lack of it) can cause muscle pain in your horse. It can even lead to serious injuries. A warm-up session under a horse solarium is an excellent way to help loosen and relax your horse’s muscles. As a result, muscle pain is reduced and performance is enhanced.

Post-workout, a solarium therapy session is also helpful, as it stimulates increased blood flow. This speeds up the delivery of oxygen and essential nutrients to the cells. Both are crucial for your horse to recover quickly.

8. Promotes Relaxation, Reduces Stress, and Makes for a Happy Horse

Solarium therapy has been proven to help horses relax better. The atmosphere and warmth soothe your horse’s body, thereby helping eliminate stress. A happy horse is a well-mannered horse that strives to perform at its best.

An Equine Solarium is an essential tool for any serious equine professional.

Great teeth cleaning toy
Style: Gator, Size: Large (Pack of 1)
I bought this for my pit bull. He is 75-80lbs. They didn't have an option for his weight, so I got the alligator for up to 35lbs. He has already chewed the alligator's face off. Now it is just an analgator. lol I do monitor him the whole time since he is over the weight limit of this chew toy. The body of the alligator has proven to be better suited for my pit bull's chewing than the face part. I bought an Arm & Hammer yellow bone chew toy for teeth cleaning a while back. It was the BEST THING EVER for my pit bull to chew on. He destroys every toy in a matter of minutes. That yellow bone lasted forever and he chewed on it daily and consistently throughout the day. I haven't been able to find another one like it, so I decided to get this alligator despite it not being for his size. It still seems durable and I think would last longer with a dog under 35lbs. I give it 5 stars bc it is a well-liked chew toy in my house with the dogs I have that like to chew. It seems well-made and great for cleaning teeth.

Great for aggressive chewers
Style: Gorilla, Size: Small (Pack of 1)
My little Corgi is an aggressive chewer. She has destroyed quite a few toys that were advertised for chewers. When I received this toy I had little confidence but it has lasted unscathed. Aside from being sturdy it also bounces so we play ball with it. It is one of her favorite toys.

Strong and Great for Treats, but Heavier Than Expected
Style: Gorilla, Size: Small (Pack of 1), Style: Gorilla, Size: Small (Pack of 1)
This is a very durable and well-made chew toy with good overall quality. The material is thick rubber and holds up well to chewing. It also works very well for holding treats, which stay in place securely. The main drawback is the weight. My dog is about 30 pounds, and even though this is a smaller version, it is still fairly heavy. She tends to use it mainly to get the treats out and then loses interest afterward. What I like: Very durable material Works great for holding treats Good bounce and quality construction Cute design Things to be aware of: Heavier than expected Some treats may be difficult to insert Dogs may lose interest once treats are gone Overall: This is a solid treat-based toy that is built well, but the weight may limit how much some dogs interact with it beyond treat use.

Extremely tough!
Style: Gorilla, Size: Large (Pack of 1)
These are seriously so much better (and cheaper) than any other supposedly "strong/durable" type toy like this. We have 70lb very strong chewers and they chew through everything. Can not have stuffies. They do eventually chew through but it seriously takes awhile. Especially in comparison to other brands. I will say it says "recommended for dogs under 35lbs" but I also work for houses where I recommended these for their dogs which were smaller and they wouldn't chew on because too tough. But they also accidentally bought the large which is what I buy my big dogs. So the large is GREAT for big dogs. If you have a dog under 35lbs I'd get the size small. Also .... says you can stuff treats. You really can't. Which my dogs don't need. They just love to chew on. I call it their bubble gum because when they FINALLY get a chunk off(which again takes awhile.... as in over a week) they will fling the pieces into the air and chew on like a piece of bubble gum lol... they love it! I don't notice a difference in breath or anything but I don't use the toothpaste either. I just bought to see if tough and they are!! And again price is clearly so much better. I hate spending $20+ on a toy they destroy in a day.

Beware if your dog likes to chew
Style: Gorilla, Size: Large (Pack of 1)
It’s super cute and my dog loved it, but it didn’t last very long. My dog started peeling off pieces of it and eating it within three hours of play. If you have a dog that takes it easy on the toys I would recommend this one. Otherwise I recommend passing because there’s no way it’s safe for them to be swallowing these pieces.
