Be the CEO of your category!

Are you a new procurement or category manager wanting to learn an overall framework for developing and implementing category strategies that stakeholders will embrace? Or an experienced procurement professional wanting to learn where you can improve your approach and raise your category strategy development and implementation to the next level? Are you a forward-looking procurement leader needing a playbook focused on coaching your team?

If you answered yes to any of the three questions, The Global Category ManagerÕs Handbook could help you!

Whether you are a new or experienced procurement professional/category manager, the process outlined is proven around the globe across a wide range of companies, industries, and categories. The 5-step process includes business strategy development tools and the practical application of these tools arranged in a logical sequence designed to help you become a better category manager and, in turn, accelerate your professional development.

Category management in procurement involves managing a category of spend by engaging key stakeholders, evaluating business requirements and suppliers, and creating and implementing a strategy that maximizes the categoryÕs value for the company. Category management enables a company to manage spend more effectively and realize millions of dollars in lost value by improving stakeholder and procurement collaboration. Value realization is not about buying the lowest price, it includes improvements in supply assurance, increased quality, service improvements, decreased total cost, access to supplier innovations, and verification of ethical compliance and sustainability.

Category strategy development and approval is the process of engaging the stakeholders for a category, analyzing their needs versus the supply baseÕs capabilities, and developing a strategy to maximize value. Strategy value realization and supplier management are the processes to refine and hone the supply base and its capabilities and deliver the value promised in the strategy.

Creating and implementing a successful category strategy will demonstrate your capabilities and show the stakeholders and suppliers that you are worthy of being the CEO of the category by:

1. Creating a cross-functional team of stakeholders and building their readiness and desire for change.

2. Helping stakeholders see what is possible and preparing them for the future journey.

3. Developing and implementing a comp

No gory details.
Format: Paperback
While the “Donner Party” is a very disturbing topic from US history, I feel this book gently writes through the gory bits but keeps relevant to the suffering of those on Oregon Trail which makes this very suitable for young readers.

Engaging and Different!
Format: Hardcover
Looking for a new kid's author to try now that Harry Potter has retired to a quiet life out of the spotlight? Try Stuart Gibbs. His first novel, Belly Up, is an engaging mix of mystery, humor, and adventure (as well as lots of trivia about the animal kingdom ranging from the fascinating to the . . . well, I'll let you read the book!) The story takes place at FunJungle, a huge new zoo/amusement park filled with many colorful characters. When the not-so-loveable mascot of the park, Henry the Hippo, turns up (literally) dead one day, only 12-year old Teddy, the son of two zoo employees, recognizes that this was no random event and begins his investigation only to find himself a target. The book is perfect for the 5th-8th grade crowd (although very enjoyable for us grown-ups who haven't quite grown up yet and still love well-crafted young adult titles). I'll definitely be following his next book (not a sequel to this but an adventure based on the Three Musketeers when they were younger) which looks like will be available this fall.

Amazing but one problem
Format: Kindle
I LOVE this book but the one problem is that there are curse words. I'm 12 and I'm aware that Stuart Gibbs curses but I feel like in this particular book he cursed a lot more than he usually does but other than that I absolutely LOVED reading this I will get the whole series for sure! If you already have read this whole series and want to read more I highly recommend spy school ( all of them there are I believe 13 of them) and space case.

Belly Up is a hit with my 8-year-old son, and even my 14-year-old can’t get enough of it! The story is funny, adventurous, and full of clever twists that appeal to both younger and older readers. It’s perfect for kids who love animals, mystery, and humor — a book that keeps everyone hooked from start to finish.
