White Hills are proponents of psychedelia as transformation. The music made by Dave W. and Ego Sensation is risky and cutting edge, rooted in dystopian futurism and hyperconscious of society's constant desire for a new and better drug. That progressive aesthetic is at the heart of White Hills' newest album Walks For Motorists, a radically stripped-down record that emphasizes rhythm and groove. The album bursts forth with a new kind of intensity, one born out of laser-focused precision and detail-oriented songwriting. Possibly surprising to fans familiar with the Hawkwindian guitar squall of earlier albums, the songs on Walks For Motorists began as a keyboard melody or bass line, and several songs on the album don't even feature guitar at all. This is propulsive, open music, surreal to it's core but made to inspire people to get out of their seats and move. Walks For Motorists was recorded with David Wrench (Caribou, Bear in Heaven, FKA Twigs, Owen Pallet) at Bryn Derwen Recording Studio in Bethesda, Wales which borders the Snowdonia National Forest. The band had 24-hour access to the studio, which allowed them to work whenever inspiration struck. Wrench's expertise producing and mixing electronic music was an essential asset when perfecting the crisp tones heard throughout the record. This is the first album the band has recorded outside of New York City, and the vast, rolling Welsh landscape that surrounded the studio influenced the album's uncluttered sound. Walks For Motorists is also White Hills' most diverse album to date. Fuzzed-out rockers sit comfortably next to kraut-infused grooves, and there are more vocal contributions from Ego than ever before. White Hills has been developing an entirely new live set focusing on new music, and will be playing many major festivals in 2015, including Roadburn, Primavera, and ATP Iceland. As anyone who has seen the band knows, they can command stages both gargantuan and intimate, and are one of the most legendary live acts in psychedelic rock today.

If you liked 1491, you'll like 1493
Format: Hardcover
I originally read the first edition of 1491, which I loved. So that's why I ordered 1493. At about the same time 1493 arrived, I found out there was a new, revised version of 1491, which my husband bought from another source. So I re-read it at the same time I read 1493 for the first time. The reason I mention this is that there are some similarities between the revised version of 1491 and the newer book, 1493 - actually some repeated material. That's ok, as the author is taking the premise of 1491 another step further. Essentially, 1491 focuses on what new studies show was really going on in the Western Hemisphere before Columbus' arrival, where native peoples were far more numerous and had more advanced cultures than Europeans previously thought possible. In 1493, Charles Mann shows not only how Columbus and Europeans changed the New World, but how the "Columbian exchange" wrought great changes in the other direction as well. And he pulls in the further exchanges with Asia, to show the trans-global linkages of the phenomenon. So, some of his exposition gets a little repetitious, but overall he's an engaging writer, and for those of us who love the history of cultural exchanges and first contact, these books are mandatory reading!

Truly worth every penny. DS2r?
Format: Hardcover
Truly incredible documentation of the thoughtful work of a handful of artists. I'm hoping that by supporting this book we may inch ourselves closer to a Dead Space 2 remake lead by Motive studio. This book is a must for fans or the game and horror in general. Well made, good quality images, lore drops, developer letters. Its fantastic!

Great Art Book
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
One of my all time favorite games, this was perfect. It IS an art book, so more into the visuals then descriptions or thoughts on designs, but that's about what I expected. Especially as it's more for the remake than original. But still worth every cent, great to see the details (especially things that are tough to see in-game) and small descriptions. Arrived quicky and in perfect condition, no complaints at all!
