We put together this mallet set for sound therapists, percussionists, composers, and yoga instructors using 28" to 30" nickel silver symphonic gongs made in the European gongmaking tradition.
We included a range of mallets, sized specifically for 28" and 30" nickel gongs, meant to draw out the full range of sounds and subtleties these types of gongs can offer. Read about each of the mallets included below to find what each one provides.
The Paiste M4 Mallet has a weighted core, wrapped in soft, synthetic wool. It has a light, metal handle, perfectly balanced for the player. It emphasizes the deep fundamental tone while also highlighting harmonics and overtones without too much attack or "thunk" up-front or too much crash on the finish.
Dragonfly Medium Soft Resonance Gong Mallet features a soft layer of fleece or faux-fur wrapped around a rubber core, attached to a lightweight handle. Their balanced weight provides good control to the player. The combination of rubber and soft fabric provides good response and fast attack without being too clunky.
Ollihess Lite 200 Mallet has a very lightweight, furry head, with a very light wooden handle. The light weight allows for freedom, balance and control, allowing for gentle playing that highlights the complex harmonics on the gong.
The Ollihess (30 and 40 mm) Lava Friction Mallets have textured black rubber heads, designed specifically to prevent leaving rubber residue on the gong. These mallets are perfect for creating mysterious whale noises.
