Domaine Coustarret is located in the beautiful and lush Béarn region of France, nestled at an altitude of 380m against the Pyrénées mountain range. Besides its delicious and generous food tradition the region is also famous for its Jurançon white wines, both dry and sweet, made with the local white grapes: Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng.

Domaine Coustarret has been passed down for seven generations. Driven by the knowledge of his ancestors and the passion for his profession, winemaker Sébastien strives to highlight the unique typicity of Jurançon grapes.

Rigor, patience, observation allow the vine to produce the best fruits that will overflow with flavors and rare expressions. The vineyard has been officially certified as organic farming since 2020 and has respected biodynamic practices for 5 years.

Contrastes 2023 is a dry white wine made exclusively with Gros Manseng grapes. It offers a round mouth with a taut core, as well as beautiful bitters that stretch the wine in length, while keeping lightness and a beautiful tension. Aromas of exotic fruits typical of Gros Manseng grapes (pineapple, lychee, passion fruit) are present but not overwhelming. A subtle balance between freshness and concentration, very beautiful length and persistence in the mouth.

Cold cuts, pan-fried foie gras, mild cheese, fish in sauce, grilled fish, shellfish, crustaceans, fruity desserts and frozen desserts are all good pairings for this wine that will enlarge your white wine horizon.

Interesting book, dull period
Format: Paperback
As a Marxist historian, Hobsbawm sees the world at this time, as well as the modern world, as a playground for the forces of capitalism. He apologizes for taking a eurocentric approach to world history, while acknowledging that Europe largely determined the course of world events during this period. In spite of the title, there actually isn't much discussion of colonial empires; Hobsbawm seems more interested in how the Age of Empire affected the rulers more than the ruled. His Marxist sympathies are in evidence and at times make his conclusions a bit predictable, but some of his cultural critiques are quite brilliant. The chapter on the dilemmas posed by modern science is exceptional. Reading a book like this seems to me much more interesting than actually living in this period would have been.
