No Right to Win: A Continuing Dialogue with Veterans of the Battle of MidwayIn 1942, one of the most powerful naval forces in history descended upon the tiny atoll of Midway, 1100 miles northwest of Hawaii. In 1942, one of the most powerful naval forces in history descended upon the tiny atoll of Midway, 1100 miles northwest of Hawaii. The Japanese intent was to lure America's badly depleted Pacific Fleet into the open where it would be overwhelmed, forcing the U.S. to end the Pacific War on Japanese terms. But it didn't happen that way. Through an amazing combination of skill, courage, and especially luck, U.S. not only prevailed at Midway but delivered to the enemy a crushing defeat that instantly changed the course of the war. No Right to Win is a fresh look at the great battle, focusing entirely on first-hand accounts by Midway veterans and the understandings that can be derived from them. Included are many of their anecdotes and revelations that compel a rethinking of some of the battle's most entrenched understandings. Could the defenders on the atoll have repulsed a Japanese invasion? Did an aircraft carrier captain falsify his after-action report? Were the Japanese about to invade Hawaii? Did the battle impact the D-Day landings in Normandy? No Right to Win explores those intriguing questions and much more in a wide-ranging examination of the twentieth century's most important naval battle.

Part of a Set
There are three items available in Wright and Bird's massive work on the New Testament. This is the video that goes with the text and there is also a Workbook.

Video lectures, just as the subtitle promises
I was seduced into buying this set on the basis of NT Wright's reputation and advertising graphics showing Holy Land locations. Consequently, I didn't pay sufficient attention to the subtitle: "The New Testament in Its World: Video Lectures." And "lectures" is exactly what this set delivers. Talking heads, lecturing on the New Testament; sometimes in a studio, sometimes in eastern Mediterranean locations. The content is solid evangelical biblical scholarship. My disappointment is the almost complete lack of engagement with the spectacular settings much of these films are shot in. It seems to me that Wright and his producers missed a real opportunity by failing more explicitly to relate their lecture content to the places where they're standing. I give this set a three-star rating. The lectures are a perfectly fine introduction to the New Testament, if that's what you're looking for -- but you could put them on CDs or MP3s and listen in the car. The graphics add very little to these presentations.

Didn't get a lot out of it
My wife got me this for a Christmas present. Having previously made it through Eusebius' "Proof of the Gospel", she figured I could handle it. I know this is part of Zondervan's Academic product line and as such is not aimed at a general audience. What I discover was that if the audience lacks credentials in Philosophy or Theology, the incessant use of jargon and terminology that would most often only be encountered in a Seminary or Religious College is something I found off-putting.

Respectful Critics
Format: Paperback
Wright and Bird do an excellent job of discussing the New Testament. They offer insights from the most widely held opinions and then offer their own with a multitude of resources. It is an excellent resources within its self.
