  • Perched amid thirty-three acres of redwoods, two miles inland from the remote Mendocino Coast in Northern California, Salmon Creek Farm is a place like few others. Originally established as a countercultural commune in the early 1970s, today it exists as a kind of communal, longterm, living art project – a queered commune, farm, and homestead, open to artists and others curious to its potentials.
  • On June 4, 2020 – in the week following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer – Salmon Creek Farm’s current custodian, the architect and artist Fritz Haeg, posted a callout to social media offering one of the farm’s cabins as a sanctuary for BIPOC artists, with no expectations, expenses or obligations.
  • The photographs that arose from Los Angeles-based artist Lenard Smith’s time on the land the following month – the same images that populate Refuge, Smith’s second book for Perimeter Editions – sway with a kind of gentle, arcane atmosphere unique to their setting. Lush, dense greenery fills several frames, bracketing quietly monumental renderings of Salmon Creek Farm’s timber cabins and other peripheral structures. Elsewhere, Smith’s affinity for low-key surrealism and the still life play out in arrangements of books, tools, keepsakes, and objects gathered from the land. Gestures toward histories of the African diaspora and Black resilience intersect with spirituality and nature. A self-portrait titled Runaway Slave sees Smith in monochrome, a bindle on his shoulder as he traipses through tangles of undergrowth. Alex Haley’s 1976 novel Roots and Angela Davis’s seminal 1971 treatise If They Come in the Morning each appear in still life, echoing both the pain of the moment and the history that preceded it.
  • But even with such bearings and signposts, Smith’s images prove open, dialogic, and free – they are unlikely conversationalists. In a prescriptive sense, this book is about neither Salmon Creek Farm nor the socio-cultural context, but it is little without them. Refuge is about an artist being given the space to live freely, to think, and make, and play. It is about safety, and the richness of introspection, solemnity, reflection, and creativity that it affords – a richness that so many of us take for granted.

Great Overall
Size: 10.14 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This stuff is outstanding. Don't stop making it. Great clean ingredients, big size, and very affordable - unheard of. I use it on my face, neck, and shaved head. I have large pore, oily, acne prone skin and this stuff works outstanding to mitigate the general dryness of nightly Tretinoin application. It hasn't caused any breakouts for me - anything comedogenic does, but this is not. It's too heavy for me to apply to go out of the house (leaves a light greasy shine on me and I like being matte), but it's great for when at home or overnight. My skin looks fab. Recommended

Too pricey compared to others
Size: 10.14 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Lotion is light and absorbs very nicely. It doesn't leave a white lotion look or make my skin feel slimy. A cple hrs later my skin still feels soft. For the price you would think it would have SPF. It seems like a nice lotion with good ingredients but it's only geared towards brightening and protecting the barrier which you can get in other lotions at a much lower pr that have SPF. I will see if my skin shows any improvement over my current lotion, but I am honestly not holding my breath on this one. My current lotion (Alozera) is a small brand loaded w/ ceramides, peptides, vit c, etc w/ a great price. I honestly tried this cuz my friend raves about but I think she is more impressed by other things vs results. This lotion has reg high molecular hyaluronic acid which protects the barrier but doesn't absorb deep into the skins layers which would plump up any collapsed structures that will lead to crepey skin. This is gonna add some length to this review but I started doing this hack a cple months ago and it really works great at a low cost. Hack: buy a quality low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid in a powder. (They have on Amazon) Make small batches (5 days) with distilled water, and NEVER use rose water to make as they sometimes suggest on the label due to bacteria growth. It won't b thick like a serum allowing it to penetrate. You MUST apply it to damp skin (not soaking wet) cuz HA binds to water (called a humectant). Otherwise, you will actually pull hydration from your skin. After applying the LMHA to your skin immediately follow by your lotion-that will trap the moisture and lock in the plumping. Also, don't mix it with your lotion or you will cause bacteria and/or mold growth in the bottle. So 2 things they may suggest that u shldnt do-using rose water or adding it to your lotion. If you do this with a wkly AHA exfoliant you will c great changes within a cple wks. I will follow up on this review in a cple wks after giving it a chance.

It's an okay lotion
Size: 10.14 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Size: 10.14 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
It can as advertised, it has no scent but it makes my skin smooth and soft but it's not moisturizing so it's best to use an oil after. It actually tighten my skin over time.
