Founded in 2017 in Saskatchewan, Canada, by watercolour artist Eric Rowe and his daughter, Jenny. The Stoneground Paint Company is dedicated to producing exceptional watercolour and gouache paints using the finest pigments available.
Historically, artists had a deep understanding of their art supplies, often sourcing their own pigments, and making their own paints. Their binders were made by hand, and their pigments were sought out based on effects, properties, or rarity. Their artwork was only as good as the supplies they create for themselves.
At The Stoneground Paint Co they are passionate about re-establishing the lost connection between artists and their supplies and we're incredibly lucky to be able to offer this watercolour collection, of 12 colours.
This palette features 12 filled half pans, and space to add another 12 half pans of your own choice (most standard half pans will fit in this palette).
Inspired by the landscape of the Wairarapa, reflecting our unique meeting of windswept coasts and hardworking farmlands and orchards the included colours are:
- Gamboge: a sun-burnt yellow ochre typical of a late summer paddock
- Golden Ochre: the base colour of autumn as you explore our region
- Warm Raw Sienna: a dusty terracotta-brown from exposed soils after harvest
- Carmine Red: the colour of a storybook apple, or the stripes on the Cape Palliser lighthouse
- India Red: the deep weathered shade of many ramshackle sheds and barns
- Delft Blue: the blue grey of our night sky
- Ultramarine Blue: a deep ocean blue, powerful but not tropical
- Cerulean Blue: a clear, luminous blue, the sky on a perfect summer day
- Hooker's Green: a muted green like waves breaking over our rocky coast
- Sap Green: a vibrant but natural mid-green for our orchards in summer
- Raw Umber: you'll find this earthy-brown in our native trees year round
- Titanium Grey: a storm-cloud grey, typical in autumn
Presented in a custom cardboard sleeve this makes a very special gift for yourself, or the artist in your life.
Brushes and other props not included.
Made in Canada.
