It is the story of the bloodthirsty Lord Ruthven, a character often compared to Lord Byron himself.

Born in London in 1795, doctor and author John Polidori traveled with Lord Byron as his personal physician in 1816 (the ÒYear Without a SummerÓ), during which time ÒThe VampyreÓ was written. Polidori died in London in 1821 at the age of 25.
