The Yak-28 was a supersonic tactical air defense fighter developed at the Yakovlev design bureau in the Soviet Union. It first entered service in 1961 with deployment of Yak - 28P started in the same year. The Yak-28P had the same design layout as the Yak-25 but, was considerably enlarged and equipped with more powerful engines. NATO assigned the codename “Firebar" to air defense fighter version with the electronic warfare version codenamed “Brewer".
