Founded in Toronto in 1969 by AA Bronson, Felix Partz and Jorge Zontal, General Idea implemented media critique and queer theory in paintings, posters, photographs, installations, videos, magazines and other multiples.

Known for "its wit, pampered presence and ornamental physique," the poodle arrived into the visual lexicon of General Idea in the early 1980s and quickly became a vehicle by which the group addressed issues ranging from sexual stereotypes to the commodification of contemporary art. However, beyond its use as an agent of subtle yet substantive political and social critique, the poodle also served as a kind of heraldic device--an emblem for the mythology of General Idea and its processes of mythmaking. Through its various incarnations of the poodle, General Idea strived for a metanarrative that skirted the boundaries between artifact and artifice; history and fantasy; truth and fiction.

It is worth purchasing a Protection Plan on an unfamiliar item
Bought a 3-year protection plan for a nut milk maker machine for $5.99. It was a fairly new kitchen item in our household and we were not familiar with the brand. So, I bought the plan for a piece (peace) of mind. The machine worked nicely for about 18-20 months with daily use until it tripped the circuit outlet. My initial chat with Asurion did not go as I expected due to discrepancy on their end as they see a protection plan for the nut milk maker as a sporting goods valued between $100-$199, not as a kitchen item valued between $30-$39.99. ( I had bought 3 different protection plan on th same day for multiple items purchased on Prime Days). They were looking at a different plan and I was unable to get them to "scroll over" to the appropriate protection plan. I tried again on a different day during the first hour of their contact hours and had a cheerful Asurion agent who was able to find the appropriate kitchen item protection plan. It was a simple and thorough conversation and transaction. I was refunded within hours after I packed up and dropped off the damaged item out to UPS. Moral of the story: Asurion Protection Plan is worth it and contact them at the start of their first day shift, not at the end of their evening shift.
